I met a little Russian boy with the name [name_m]Lukyan[/name_m] some years ago and I’ve liked it a lot sense. I’ve found very little about the name, but they pronounced it like [name_m]Luke[/name_m] + [name_m]Ian[/name_m] together. Personally, I think I prefer it spelled Lukian.
Thoughts? How wearable would it be in the US?
I think it’s cool! The “correct” pronounciation is hard to translate into [name_f]English[/name_f], but I do really enjoy it in Russian and the [name_f]English[/name_f] Luke+Ian pronunciation is still quite nice. I would probably keep the [name_m]Lukyan[/name_m] spelling - it’s just my personal quip that when taking a name from another culture, it’s more respectful to keep the established spelling, and in this case it’s also more reflective of the name’s “real” pronunciation. It seems very usable to me!
[name_m]Lukyan[/name_m] is also on my radar, I discovered it recently and I personally like both spellings Lukian & [name_m]Lukyan[/name_m] the same 
I don’t think that pronunciation would be an issue either, it should be pretty straight forward with this name, plus with Luca’s raising popularity, Lukian is a great choice as it’s a lot less common

I really like this name, never heard of it before! Totally wearable in the US, in my opinion.
Speaking of this name in the US, I personally think the spelling Lukian is more likely to get the pronunciation you’re after (though aesthetically, I do prefer Lukyan). Since you seem to be leaning towards Lukian already, I’d say go with that option and it should work great!

Interestingly, everyone I knew just pronounced it as I described (this was a mix of nationalities, but mostlly Slavic language-speakers), but I don’t remember if the parents pronounced it differently (assuming the did as they were Russian) since it was just in my daughters’ school and I didn’t hear the parents say his name often. I’ll look up the correct pronunciation I do agree with you regarding spelling!
Exactly what I was thinking! It seems like a great classic-with-a-twist (from an English-speaker’s perspective, I mean) that fits in with the Sebastians, Julians, etc. of today, plus he could easily go by [name_m]Luke[/name_m] or [name_u]Luka[/name_u], if he chose, to fit in even more. We have a [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] who can do this with [name_u]Nick[/name_u] or [name_u]Nicky[/name_u] as nicknames (though he prefers the full [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] so far)
That’s how I feel! Seems like Lukian would be more wearable in the US, but at the same time, [name_m]Lukyan[/name_m] is more authentic…
