Lulabelle: is it too....something?

What are our thoughts on Lulabelle? And yes, I realized since my girl name plans began at “[name]Andrew[/name]” (no longer a contender) I am really running the gamut but here is my thinking:

PROS:

  • I’m basically trying to get to [name]Lulu[/name] (and my interest in [name]Eloise[/name] has waned)
  • [name]Lulu[/name] was my great grandmother’s name but she hated it so pronounced it “[name]Lula[/name]” all her life
  • I can’t just go with [name]Lula[/name] because daddy’s last name begins with a “la” sound
  • Yes, I know that’s alliterative and I like that

CONS:

  • It’s…I don’t know… country?
  • My issue with [name]Lulu[/name] on its own is it doesn’t have enough gravitas for an adult & Lulabelle hardly has more
  • My cat’s name is [name]Annabel[/name] (i.e. a bad sibset, even though one sib has fur)
  • I hate all names that end with “bella” and I worry people will accidentally call her Lulabella because of the -ella epidemic

Lulabelle would be even harder for a little girl to grow up with than Lulu. I don’t really have a way to improve Lulabelle other than to scratch it off the list and use another name with the “loo” sound.

I really, really, um…dislike Lulabelle. If you’re just looking to get to [name]Lulu[/name], how about [name]Lucy[/name]? It’s so much simpler and less frilly, yet still girly and cute, and people definitely know how to pronounce it. I adore [name]Lucy[/name], and you could nickname your little [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Lulu[/name].

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] but my husband hates it. And it can’t end in “La” because his last name starts with “La” so that kills [name]Tallulah[/name], which I also love. I pitched “[name]Ana[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]” but he vetoed all double barrels. This is how I arrived at Lulabelle, but I’m considering just “[name]Lulu[/name]” now, gravitas or no.

I think it’s very cute for a toddler… less so for a woman.
[name]Luella[/name] would be elegant on an adult. You could always nn her [name]Lulu[/name] from that too. [name]Even[/name] call her Lulabelle as a special nn.
Another idea- go for [name]Eloise[/name] still but put a [name]Belle[/name] name in the middle spot to give the nn Lulubelle.
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Rosabelle[/name] or [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name]

Lulabelle works. It’s a little hard to picture on a grown woman, but I can see it working. I personally love the nickname [name]Lula[/name], but prefer full names such as [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Luella[/name]

To me, this looks like one of those celebrity baby names. Its definitely a something, but not in a crazy bad way. Its very cutesy, but some people really like that. If I personally had to grow up with that name, I think I would have dropped the [name]Lula[/name] or the [name]Belle[/name] as soon as adolescence hit.

I think I would be pushing for a different [name]Lucy[/name]-variant that’s more acceptable to your spouse - [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Lucilla[/name], and particularly with your last name, [name]Lucienne[/name]. ([name]Just[/name] because the -enne sound is soft while not running into La-). Or [name]Luna[/name].

If you hate -bella names I really don’t think Lulabelle is going avoid -bella confusion completely, especially because “-belle” turns into “bella” when its “Lulabelle La-”

[name]Lu[/name]labelle: too immature and too repetitive. (5 letters: a,b,e,l,u and 9 letters in Lulabelle.) Sweet as it looks like Lullaby.

Ways to get to [name]Lou[/name]:

Lucy is too boring for me! There’s 2 in my year alone!

Agree with trying to find another way to get to [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nickname. I like the suggestions of [name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_u]Louise[/name_u].
I’m not a huge fan of Lulabelle.

I think that if the babies last name begins with the La sound if you use any [name_f]Lu[/name_f] name you can get the nick name of [name_f]Lula[/name_f]

I am personally a fan of the [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] , [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmylou[/name_f] suggestions . I also like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] or [name_f]Liliah[/name_f] . I personally love [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] so I think that’s which way I would go!

I would steer away from belle ending names because of the fur sibling. I also think it adds to the “country” vibe

Lucia La———- “[name_f]Lula[/name_f]”
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] La———- “[name_f]Lula[/name_f]”
[name_f]Emmylou[/name_f] La—— “lula”

Sounds like you’ve answered your own question. Your con list is quite long. Keep hunting

What about [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and you can call her Lulabelle at home? A bit of a stretch maybe but a fresh alternative to [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
