Lumi is the Finnish word for snow and is used for baby girls there, but not so much anywhere else.
I’m Australian and have no Finnish connections, which I’ve heard can make the name unusable… But then again one of my sons is named [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and I was told if I’m not [name_m]German[/name_m] it would be a strange choice, but he fits his name perfectly and I get nothing but compliments.
So anyway, opinions on Lumi as a girls first name? Usable? No?
I worked with a woman named Luminita, who went by Lumi (she is Romanian). I absolutely love the name Lumi and wish I could use it, but our surname is too close.
I don’t see why you can’t? More and more lately, parents are naming their children names that sound nice or look nice, rather than due to a cultural or familial tie. I’ve always said, if you like it, use it!
I really like it but it’s too short for me (maybe not for you) so I would choose a longer name like Plumeria or [name_f]Lumina[/name_f] and use it as a nn. Besides, I like when the nn has its own meaning because it’s like getting two names for one.
