Luna's sister?

[name]Hi[/name] there, I’m new to nameberry and after looking around at the amazing taste in names you guys on here have, i’m looking for some name ideas for baby number 2 (due in march).

We (I’m [name]Beatrix[/name] by the way and my husband is [name]Alex[/name]) have a daughter, [name]Luna[/name] [name]Florence[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] who is three.

I’m really feeling the pressure of naming our second, it feels as though what we pick will really set the tone for any subsequent children if that makes sense? Like avoiding any kind of theme etc. I’m looking for a name that is beautiful, easy, happy but has substance and is classic but not boring. Something summery and bright seeing as he/she will be born at the end of summer.
So basically i’m i’m confused and in need of ideas and looking for input from naming pros.

Our current girls list:

[name]Phoebe[/name] - This is one of my all time favourite names. It was the name of my favourite doll when i was little (is that weird?). But it is also the name of one of my neighbours really annoying dogs (spelled Feebee). Would this be okay? Also it references the moon, is this too close to [name]Luna[/name] or make it a theme? (I’m not against themes, I just don’t want it to be obvious.)

[name]Poppy[/name] - This is a family name, I’m thinking of a way to use this in the middle somewhere.

[name]India[/name] - I love this name and the country but i’m worried about using it - a family member was desperate for a girl but only had boys and this was her girls name? This was about 15 years ago but is it too mean to use it?

[name]Matilda[/name] - I love it. [name]Alex[/name] isn’t so sure (he’s Australian). We live in Australia and it is a kind of love it or hate it name here I think. Middle?

[name]Bo[/name]/[name]Boheme[/name] - I just really like it. I think [name]Bo[/name] is such a great nickname but not 100% on [name]Boheme[/name].

[name]Cassia[/name] - [name]Just[/name] beautiful in my opinion.

[name]Echo[/name] - this might be too out there, but i like the sound of it and the potential for [name]Coco[/name] as a nickname.

So that’s the list, any help would be most appreciated! (I’ll post our boys list in the boys section)

Thanks
[name]Bea[/name]

I have just come across [name]Cleo[/name] which is kind of the same realm as [name]Echo[/name] but maybe a little more conservative? It also incorporates [name]Leo[/name] which is on my boys list but i’m a little wary of using. Would [name]Leo[/name] work as a nickname for a girl? [name]Lulu[/name] & [name]Leo[/name]?

[name]Love[/name] your names!

I think [name]Phoebe[/name] is gorgeous, not too close to [name]Luna[/name]. You would be starting a heavenly theme, I’d say, and there’s plenty of goddesses related to this theme, and you’ve got plenty of stars!
[name]India[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name] are both pretty names, I know little girls with these names and they’re both lovely.
[name]Boheme[/name] is very cute, I just find “lifestyle” names a little weird.
[name]Cassia[/name] is gorgeous! I also love the name [name]Echo[/name], but i find the myth so sad and depressing I wouldn’t use it on a child. BUT if that’s not an issue for you, go for it.
I like [name]Cleo[/name], but I prefer [name]Clio[/name] (the muse of history).

I’m not a fan of [name]Poppy[/name] (I’m in [name]London[/name] and there are tons of little, annoying Poppys around).

I’m not sure [name]Leo[/name] (for a girl) has the same kind of feel as [name]Luna[/name]. From your list I like [name]Cassia[/name] and [name]Echo[/name]. I also like the suggstion of [name]Cleo[/name] or [name]Clio[/name].

Have you also considered [name]Calla[/name] or [name]Nova[/name]? They could be good matches for [name]Luna[/name]. [name]Calla[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Alessa[/name] would be a nice combination.

Your daughters name [name]Luna[/name] [name]Florence[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] is just stunning!

From the list I adore [name]Echo[/name], [name]Bo[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]India[/name]. [name]Poppy[/name] seems too normal and if from your profile details you live partly in [name]London[/name], you’d come across a fair few [name]Poppy[/name]'s. I feel the same about [name]Phoebe[/name] too, it doesn’t have the unique/uncommon feel that [name]Luna[/name] does.

In order of preference; [name]Echo[/name] (I adore this!), [name]Matilda[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Cassia[/name] and then [name]Bo[/name].

Nove is the same thing that popped in my mind, too.

[name]Phoebe[/name] - I adore it! I don’t think the moon tie in is too obvious at all, most people aren’t aware of it. However the annoying dog thing would give me pause. Still worth keeping on your list and thinking about.

[name]Poppy[/name] - maybe it’s because I’m American but I can never fully understand this name’s appeal. However I think as a middle name it’s a fine choice. Hearing from the poster above that elsewhere in the Anglosphere it’s quite common also makes me think it’s not the best match to a [name]Luna[/name].

[name]India[/name] - I think this is a beautiful name. Is the relative you mention someone you could ask about this? Might actually make her happy to see it used, you never know. However it is sensitive so I wouldn’t rush to use it. Also I have followed other threads on here which indicate some people find this name offensive.

[name]Matilda[/name] - I quite like it too. But I can understand it coming off weird in Australia. Middle is probably the best spot. For two middles, [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] both have pretty good flow!

[name]Bo[/name]/[name]Boheme[/name] - I like the nn [name]Bo[/name] but would want it for another name (not sure what off the top of my head). [name]Boheme[/name] is an opera to me and an opera about a tragic character and I also find the sound and look of this name confusing. I can’t get behind it.

[name]Cassia[/name] - I agree, this is really love and pairs nicely with [name]Luna[/name]. [name]Cassia[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] is quite nice.

[name]Echo[/name] - like another poster I find it too tragic. It could be a cool middle.

[name]Cleo[/name] - I think this is great. I wouldn’t do the nn [name]Leo[/name], but just [name]Cleo[/name] is nice. [name]Cleo[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] is great.

Here are a few more suggestions:

[name]Io[/name] - a moon of [name]Jupiter[/name], but most people wouldn’t know that. A bold choice, might be better in the middle, but you do seem to like the letter O! Also has mythological roots. Is tragic, but I think the story is less well known than that of [name]Echo[/name].

Ino - an alternate form of [name]Io[/name] that reminds me of [name]India[/name] a bit.

[name]Ione[/name] - Has the O, the structure of [name]Phoebe[/name], and first letter of [name]India[/name].

[name]Margot[/name] - has the O, some letters from [name]Matilda[/name], means [name]Pearl[/name] which I think is a nice image next to the moon.

[name]Roxana[/name] - means dawn, a nice subtle meaning tie in to [name]Luna[/name] without being overwhelming, has the O, has an X which is cool to tie to you and [name]Alex[/name].

I’m sure there are plenty more good ones for you. Good luck!

Is [name]Nova[/name] too themed? I knew a girl named [name]Nova[/name] in high school, and she is absolutely stunning. I would have perhaps used it with my little girl, but out last name is [name]Chevalier[/name]. And from what I remember, the [name]Chevy[/name] [name]Nova[/name] wasn’t a well-loved vehicle.

I’m Australian and can understand why your husband doesn’t want to use [name]Matilda[/name]. I do know a little girl named [name]Matilda[/name] and her parents got lots of strange looks when she was born! However I do think it’s a great middle name

[name]Cleo[/name] is beautiful!!! I think it goes wonderfully with [name]Luna[/name]

I also love [name]Poppy[/name] for a middle name but I’m not sure about [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] as middle names together.

Before I saw the list and as I read your daughter’s name, I really did think of [name]Pheobe[/name]. It is so cool! It has the same balance of familiar and unique that I think [name]Luna[/name] has. My other favorite from your list is your addon: [name]Cleo[/name]. It’s a favorite of mine right now, and again, I think it has a similar balance as [name]Luna[/name]. Perhaps a bit less familiar. [name]Pheobe[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Boheme[/name] would be out of this world beautiful!

I’m voting for [name]Cassia[/name]! It’s beautiful, and I think the feel of it matches well with [name]Luna[/name] without any worries about creating a theme. I also think [name]Cassia[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] _____ could work really well.

I actually felt [name]Echo[/name] was the most thematic combination of the names you listed. I like [name]Echo[/name] in theory but with this I think it’s a bit much.

I really like [name]Cassia[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name] from your list. Out of the two, I think [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Cassia[/name] forms a good sibset.

With [name]Luna[/name], I would choose…

1 [name]Cassia[/name]
2 [name]Phoebe[/name]
3 [name]India[/name]

I really like [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]India[/name] and [name]Cassia[/name] and think they would go really well with [name]Luna[/name].

My favorites from your list are [name]Cassia[/name], [name]India[/name], and [name]Phoebe[/name]- They all sound great with [name]Luna[/name]!
I think I would go with [name]Phoebe[/name] just so I didn’t start a trend of using names ending in ‘A’… But that is just a personal preference, I’m not sure if that is something that would bother you. I also quite like the other suggestions of [name]Cleo[/name] and [name]Ione[/name].

I also think [name]Poppy[/name] sounds great as a mn for any of your choices(maybe as a second mn if you use [name]Phoebe[/name], to prevent the PP initials).
The only name on your list I don’t care for is [name]Boheme[/name], BUT since it seems you love so much I really [name]DO[/name] think you could get away with using the nn [name]Bo[/name] for [name]Phoebe[/name] as well, if that helps. Good luck! =]

All of your names are bright and lovely, but [name]Cleo[/name] has a vibrant, flapper feel to it, a la [name]Zelda[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name]. That’s my vote.

[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Cassia[/name]
[name]Echo[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
are my favorites. [name]Cassia[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name] win by a nose because I love the strong C sound at the beginning. [name]Cassia[/name] is just one of my favorites- I love its spicyness and its sound. [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Echo[/name] [name]Boheme[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name] (something) [name]Boheme[/name] have great flow, [name]IMO[/name], because of the repeated O sounds… Another one of my favorites is [name]Wylda[/name], which rhymes with [name]Matilda[/name] but gives the feeling of wildness, like [name]Cassia[/name]. Also [name]Cassiopeia[/name], which is a whole lotta eccentric name, but glorious. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Sybil[/name]? The Chinese name Kun has quite a lovely sound. It means, simply, earth. Could be a nice middle name for [name]Cassia[/name], calling up the image of dusty cinnamon and red earth. Personally, I’d stay away from [name]India[/name], because of the iffy thing with that aunt of yours, and because of its connection to colonialism. [name]Love[/name] your taste in names- boy and girl both.

[name]India[/name] and [name]Cassia[/name] are beautiful! I love [name]Leonie[/name] for a girl.
