Absolutely unisex!
I personally would give my boy a formal name like [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and then call him [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [all the time].

I like it! Personally, more as a nickname for [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], but [name_f]Lux[/name_f] on it’s own is great as well! It’s not a very feminine name, despite being a girls name, so I absolutely think it works. If it were more used, I’d hesitate (I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] for a boy, but I just couldn’t!), but [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is still very under the radar!

[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] works as well, and [name_m]Ludovic[/name_m] and [name_m]Lucius[/name_m]. And Loxias, though I would be tempted to use [name_m]Locke[/name_m]

(my guiltiest pleasure is [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] nn [name_f]Lux[/name_f]… [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] is a gorgeous name, I hate that it’s ruined!)

I think [name_f]Lux[/name_f] totally works for either a boy or a girl.

I’m loving the feedback so far! Thank you!

I’ve read around on other sites and some people seem to feel that [name_f]Lux[/name_f] sounds cheap or even trashy-- association with Deluxe or Luxury.
I do feel that names like Royalty, [name_u]Reign[/name_u] Etc (aka current celeb baby naming trend) tend to sound trashy, although I wouldn’t put [name_f]Lux[/name_f] in that drawer!
What are your thoughts on that?

Edited to add:
And how would you pronounce it? I’d go with the Latin pronounciation, roughly like LOUX (short ou). Although most people would probably pronounce it as LUCKS…

Hmm good point… I have [name_m]Luka[/name_m]/[name_u]Luca[/name_u] on my list… Would that work? [name_m]Luka[/name_m]/[name_u]Luca[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lux[/name_f]?
For me, nicknames have to be very intuitive… I love a creative nickname, but know it wouldn’t feel right if, eg., the name and its nn didn’t share similar sounds – [name_u]LOU[/name_u]-kah and LOUX, maybe, but if the general assumption will be that [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is pronounced LUCKS, then I feel this would be a bit of a stretch. No?

I’m one of those people who thinks [name_f]Lux[/name_f] on a girl sounds cheap. For a boy, however, it sounds fresh and new. I love it!

If I were to use it I’d probably have it as a nickname for [name_m]Louis[/name_m].

I love the name [name_f]Lux[/name_f], but for a girl! I would just assume hearing the name that its a girl. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Lex[/name_u]? It’s close, is sounds good, and it also has a good meaning.

Personally, I had no idea it was a girls’ name until I saw that it was pink. I had been reading about unique names that came up in 2015, and this one popped up, but it didn’t say if it was male or female, so I presumed it was a male name, I was slightly shocked it was a girls’ name, but I think it works better on a girl.

I have to admit that I find [name_f]Lux[/name_f] cheap/trashy sounding. I don’t like it for a boy or a girl.

[name_f]Lux[/name_f] is actually a unisex name. Definitely works.

If you hadn’t given the background i would have guessed [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is a boy. I don’t think it sounds girly.

But honestly I’d never heard of the name before now and now that I know the origin I wouldn’t consider it unisex.

It’s hardly a well known girls’ name, so I think you could easily use it on a boy without confusion. I can see it working well on a boy!

I pronounce [name_f]Lux[/name_f] as [name_u]LOU[/name_u]-x; so [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_f]Lux[/name_f] sound very alike to me. However, English is not my native language.
I don’t believe that [name_u]Luca[/name_u] nn “LUCKS” would be that weird, 'cause I have heard (more than once) of a [name_m]Luke[/name_m] being nicknamed [name_u]Lucky[/name_u], so for me is not a stretch.
