I just want some opinions on these questions!
I pronounce [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] like lie - lah, and I don’t like the pronunciation [name_u]Lee[/name_u] - lah at all. [name_m]Will[/name_m] people call her that? Is there a way I can spell it to only make it Lie -lah?
I don’t like the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f], as it’s popularity is overtaking me, but is [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] too similar to the [name_f]Lily[/name_f] family that it would just be bland and not at all interesting?
Lyla’s name sister, [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], is becoming popular. [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] too?
TIA
I have only ever come across [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] pronounced as Lie-lah.
I don’t think either [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is bland or uninteresting.
Lyla is already quite popular. Is it too popular? - only you can answer that, but, personally, I think people are too easily put off current names just because they appear in the top 100 or 200. Most of us love current names - that’s why they are current names.

Lyla is already fairly popular in the UK but not overly so

I don’t think [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] would get mispronounced!
Since you’re worried about popularity, I’d just like to warn you that [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is #120, but there’s also [name_f]Layla[/name_f] which is #23 and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (eye-lah, so [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] without the L) is number 53 and there are other similar popular names like [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Laylah[/name_f], [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], etc. That’s not necessarily bad, but you seemed to be concerned about similar names being popular so I thought I’d mention it.

I don’t think anyone would mispronounce this spelling as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-lag, but you never know. Between the various spellings of [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], the name is pretty popular already. But it’s still a nice name!

I don’t think anyone would say Lyla as “lee-la”. Lyla/Lylah/Lila/Lilah, etc are certainly becoming popular and will continue to become more popular, as well as similar sounding names like Layla, Lola, Lyra, Isla, and Delilah

I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/Lyla! I prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f] myself but [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is nice. I don’t think anyone would say [name_f]Lila[/name_f] OR [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] any way but Lie-lah personally, but maybe there are a few who would need gentle correction.
I think a lot of the double L names get lumped together—[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Leilani[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], etc,—but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] feels different enough from [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for me? I like both.
And sorry to break it to you, but [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is already much more popular than [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]—[name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is #128 on the US popularity charts but [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is back at #673. Still, I don’t find [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] too popular to use and would love to meet one.

Lyla is really sweet! I prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f] in theory, but I do think [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is a bit more straightforward for pronunciation. I don’t think [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] would be mispronounced LEE-luh (or really any other way)! Double “L” names do seem to be quite popular at the moment–with [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/Lyla/Lilah, [name_f]Layla[/name_f]/Leila/Laila, [name_f]Lola[/name_f], etc.–at least in my area. You mentioned [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]–how do you feel about it? It stands out from that crowd a bit more to me, and is currently much less popular than [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]. If popularity/distinctiveness is a concern for you, I think that could make a good option (plus it’s a great name anyway!). That said, if [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is the name you really love, I wouldn’t let the popularity stop you! It’s a lovely name that balances sweetness and substance and would suit lots of different types of people.

Lyla is pretty! I much prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] myself, and I highly doubt that either would be mispronounced often. Although, I’d be less worried about [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] making [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] more popular because it’s the other way around. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is already gaining in popularity, especially when you combine spellings. You can’t hear a difference between [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] on a playground. It’s also similar to the [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] crowd so it has trendy sounds. It’s a lovely name but something to consider if popularity bothers you.
Lyla is lovely! I agree with everyone else that it wouldn’t be mispronounced. It’s pretty popular where I live - I’ve heard of a fair few Lylas. I also prefer the [name_f]Lila[/name_f] spelling, but ultimately it’s whether you care about popularity much.
I pronounced it the same way as you! It definitely has the potential to become popular, but I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f]/Lyra will become far more popular. I’ve also seen it spelled [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] and used as a nn for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].
Thx so much everyone! I’m trying to expand my name list because I have like 3 names that I actually love, and all your support and helpful opinions help me so much!

One of my best friends is [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. She gets LEE-luh sometimes but we’re around a lot of Spanish speaking people (including out own families) and that’s how it’s said in Spanish, and it’s a super easy thing to correct. Right now is the US [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is the most popular spelling of that name at #120, [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is at #227 and [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] is #286. I think it might get a little popular but not in say the top 10 or anything. In general I think it’s a super sweet and spunky name that would age and grow really well.
