I know this might sound crazy to some people but hear me out… The name [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] on a girl has been popular forever, with a crap ton of girls names ending in -lyn and using it for middle names it would sound ridiculous on a boy. But what if I did? I can see a little boy/teenager with this name. I know a lot of people will say no to it but just think about it for a minute…
I have a great-uncle [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and have never thought a thing of it…a big burly man at that!
It could definitely work.
Ask male family members and friends their opinions. I imagine many teenage boys and men would not be comfortable with having the name [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is actually a man’s name also.
The novelist [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] Waugh is a case in point
Also, lots of Welsh male names end in -yn
It may depend where you are on how people will see it. I know historically [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] was a male named and even used up until the 1980s.
Maybe [name_m]Glynn[/name_m] and [name_u]Bryn/name_u are alternatives if you like that sound too.
I have loved [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] as a masculine name for some time. It has a clear-eyed softness that’s quite beautiful. It comes from a surname and so is technically androgynous.
Granted, where I live [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is a rare name and I haven’t met a single one. If you live in a country where it is a very common name for women, you may need to think more about whether it would be practical for a boy to grow up with this name.
Maybe [name_f]Lin[/name_f] would work–as in [name_f]Lin[/name_f]-[name_m]Manuel[/name_m] [name_f]Miranda[/name_f]
I had a friend whose middle name is [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] (his first is [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]). I think it could work, definitely as a middle.
There was a male [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] in the tv show [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I personally wouldn’t use it for my son, but I think it can definitely work.
I know two brothers in their 50’s named [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Terry[/name_u], and as far as I know it’s never been a problem for them. I personally would not use it though.
I don’t see what is so feminine about [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] other than it’s a popular suffix for girl names. It’s not common on its own anymore so I don’t associate it with either sex. I think it’s even becoming less popular as a female middle name, although I haven’t tested that. I think it would work great on a boy or a girl.
I think it could work, although I have never met a male [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and would not personally use it. I do adore [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]!
I know a couple of guys with the middle name [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. I’ve always really liked it. Never seen it as a first name, but I definitely think it would be fine.
I like [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] [name_m]Dunn[/name_m] pronunciation and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] for short
My fil’s middle name is [name_m]Len[/name_m]. I like that spelling for a boy.
