What do you think of [name_u]Madden[/name_u] for a girl? I think it was originally a boy’s name, but I find it pretty.
Not keen for either boy or girl, makes me think of maddening/mad etc
[name_f]My[/name_f] first association is “maddening” unfortunately
i agree with the above posters; it’s too close to mad/maddening for me
[name_u]Madden[/name_u] is a fairly common Irish surname, but I’ve never heard of anyone who has it as a first name. It doesn’t appeal to me personally and the dictionary meaning of “to madden” is unfortunate.
That’s a good point. At first, I didn’t think about how it was so similar to the word to madden or maddening. How about Mayden?
[name_u]Madden[/name_u] is a word, to become mad. It also carries the connotation of the [name_u]Madden[/name_u] football games in the US. Not recommended for use as a name on either gender. Mayden is basically maiden respelled, which is just naming a girl “girl” essentially.
I wonder if altering the spelling might help get around the “madden” verb connection… How about [name_f]Maddyn[/name_f]?
Same for me I’m afraid
I have a young uncle named Madden. I personally never associated his name with madness until I started seeing it on Nameberry more – he does wear it well. I don’t know how I feel about a female Madden but I do think it’s wearable without the association of anger.
I associate it with the [name_u]Madden[/name_u] video games my husband plays and with that football guy who recently passed away (I know very little about it myself).
I think the pretty aspect of it may come from similar sounding names, such as [name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]? I see a slight appeal in it but would personally rather have one of the similar names rather than [name_u]Madden[/name_u] itself.
This is a no for me. In agreement with what has already been stated about the “maddening” aspect and the video game thing. But ALSO, [name_u]Madden[/name_u] could very easily be mistaken for Maiden and i just don’t like that either.
I really like it, though my instinct would be for a boy over a girl. I associate it more with [name_u]Madden[/name_u] games than maddening, and there are so many Mad- names out there. I also like [name_u]Maddox[/name_u].
