Made up names

A friend of mine wanted to name her daughter Lanabelle. She changed her mind when the baby was born and she called her [name]Luana[/name]-[name]Belle[/name] [name]Marisa[/name]([name]Marisa[/name] was a must MN.)
A friend of my sister’s has a girl whose name is Nokia. I’m not sure if it’s her full name actually, it might be a nn from [name]Nikole[/name] or smth.

Oh… I remembered one more. My BFF was crazy about Mold. She was obsessed with it. I’m happy her ex-husband vetoed it.

My last name is [name]Kessie[/name]! It is supposedly from the [name]Cassia[/name] tree. Would [name]Cassia[/name] work? I think it is cute.

In one of my name books, [name]Kessie[/name] is listed- its meaning was ‘chubby baby’, but I can’t remember right now where it said it originated. I only remember it because my cousin had it on her short list for a while. If the book weren’t in a room with a sleeping baby, I would go look it up. Oh, and my ‘favourite’ made up sounding name is Skylax (my BFF’s dh’s idea).

A lot of trendy american names seem very made up! I meet a lot of strange named people on my travels! Named things like [name]Brinley[/name] and [name]Corbin[/name] and [name]Hadley[/name] and [name]Peyton[/name]? I’m sure these sound made up, maybe its just the american style?

[name]Edit[/name]; I looked at these names after I posted this, I guess they’re not made up, I just never hear names like this in [name]England[/name]! Hmm… are they considered trendy names?

my name is Sageanali but most people call me [name]Sage[/name]. My parents made up my name by taking my mother’s middle name ([name]Sage[/name]), my aunt’s name ([name]Ana[/name]) and my grandmother’s name ([name]Emeli[/name]). My sister’s names are made up as well. There’s Maraleah (whom we call [name]Mara[/name]) which is our great grandmothers names ([name]Marabel[/name] and [name]Leah[/name]) mixed up a bit and there’s Xenabelle (whom we call [name]Xena[/name]) which was just made up with the name [name]Xena[/name] from a superhero film and [name]Belle[/name] was from my my grandmother’s middle name. Funny how my brother has the most normal name in the house ([name]Jacob[/name] [name]Ethan[/name]), I mean even the dogs called Eritrea!

For a character, I made up the name Creatia. Pronounced Cree-ay-sha.

I know a baby girl named Crosleigh (pr. croz-lee) I’m pretty sure that was made up.

Carzie (girl)
Jarheed (boy)
Nikinzy (girl; used as a middle name)

When I was a teenager I babysat a little boy named Davidge, named after one of the main characters in the sci-fi movie Enemy Mine. I thought it was a really cool name. I was into sci fi novels then and was always fascinated by their characters’ futuristic names . . .

[name_m]Jacen[/name_m] and Jaina
Gundar
[name_u]Galen[/name_u]
[name_m]Jarec[/name_m]
Davidge
[name_m]Kyp[/name_m]
Zam
Nyota
[name_u]Abi[/name_u]
[name_f]Amerie[/name_f]
Marriner

Anyways, those are just ones I’ve admired . . . not sure if I’d ever go so far as to use one, but if you’re interested in “made up” names, the sci fi/fantasy genre is full of them!

Not exactly made up, but…

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister’s name is Shanley
[name_f]My[/name_f] best friend’s name is Yamuna

and I do love the made-up name Sophena
but they don’t sound too yoonik in my opinion

I agree with this. And I think being judgmental about it can backfire badly. Too many times I have seen people assume that a name is made up and yoooniq but, in fact, the name is from another language, another ethnic group, NOT made up, and possibly centuries old. Or it’s a family name, or an amalgam of the parents’ name, or it honors a dead loved one with a special meaning.

So be careful! If you are like: “ewww that name is SO made-up” - you might be told, rightly & factually, you are an ignorant person about history & languages, or a racist, or you’ve insulted a family honor name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sayin’.

Today, I had to tell somebody that the creative spelling of a name was German, the root of the current name, and pre-dates the “classic” name she believes is better.

I have a friend who couldn’t decide between [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] or [name_u]Dakoda[/name_u]/[name_u]Dakota[/name_u] for her daughter… and ended up going with Nicoda. NMS but I don’t think its too bad. I guess it’s more of a smoosh name than strictly made up.

I guess you could consider most of my children’s names “made up”. Zabryn came from a dream. my daughters’ middle names are a mash of my grandmothers’ names and Revvie was created by switching letters to [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. People often confuse unique with underused.

I know quite a few;

Bryden
Serissa
Maryline
Irelynd
Sha’uri
[name_m]Drummer[/name_m]
Payslynn

Most of these are either straight from books, or altered made up names from books. Some I just made up. I really love a lot of these.
Anidora
Lothira
Elendra
Endrana
Saren
Monaecia/Monacia (I’m still convinced this must be a place name or something)
Xinnaea (Like [name_f]Linnaea[/name_f]/[name_f]Linnea[/name_f] with an X)

I completely agree with you! Some people can be so rude. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if the name is made up, or not your taste there is no need to be rude about.

Not entirely sure if they’re all made up but here are some I’ve heard recently…
Kenzlee
Liara
[name_m]Zander[/name_m]
Gerad- an honor name.

THIS! I couldn’t agree more! Your post should pop up as an automatic warning whenever someone is up to post these holier-than-thou and judgemental comments. We have examples of how these things can backfire in the forums ALL the time.

I made up the name Azelka… But I think [name_f]Tanika[/name_f] and [name_f]Tabita[/name_f] (no h) look made up…

I don’t really consider any names made up. Sure, I think some names LOOK made up, but usually there is some sort of meaning to it, however big or small.
