-line names can be tricky, with so many different pronunciations. But I absolutely love them and wouldn’t let pronunciation worries stop you. Personally, I would default to pronouncing [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] your preferred way, like the word “line”, [name_f][/name_f] and I would do the same with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. (I’m in Canada).
[name_f][/name_f]I have a daughter named [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], with the ending pronounced like the word “lean”. One of my brothers, who is 14 years younger than me, always calls her E-van-ge-LYNN, despite multiple corrections. He’s not doing it on purpose, but he lives far away from us and just can’t seem to keep it straight. I kind of wondered if it was a generational thing, with the -lyn endings being so popular in [name_f]Gen[/name_f] Z. But it doesn’t really bother me, because I think it sounds pretty that way too. No one else so far has had a problem pronouncing it, but in my experience, unexpected things come up with any name.
