Madeline šŸŽ€

Todays name crush is Madeline (leen ending). Is it though too overdone? Do you consider it dated? Iam worry it doesn’t sound fresh. Also I don’t like Maddie. Any creative nicknames ideas?

Thanks :sunflower:

I have never actually heard this name with the ā€œleenā€ ending so it doesn’t sound overdone at all to me. Other than [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], maybe [name_u]Del[/name_u] or [name_u]Dell[/name_u], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_u]Mel[/name_u], [name_f]Mellie[/name_f], [name_f]Mada[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f], or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as nicknames?

Ooooo I love Madeline!! She’s a long-time favourite of mine, she evokes gorgeous imagery and has such a sweet sound!! :ballet_shoes::ribbon:

The ā€˜-leen’ pronunciation is beautiful. I seriously love this name! That pronounciation isn’t the most common so your little [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] would most likely have to correct many people.

It’s definitely not dated, I’d describe it as the definition of timeless!

I love [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] but am not a fan of [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. Though it’s almost inevitable that people will try and call her that, my favourite nickname and the one that I would use is [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. Some more ideas…
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Mada[/name_f]
[name_f]Lina[/name_f]
[name_f]Mellie[/name_f]
Meelie

I love [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] - she makes me think of messy hair, pink ribbons and an old house in [name_u]Paris[/name_u] all covered in vines. I haven’t come across ā€˜-leen’ before, my personal favourite is ā€˜-lyn’, and whilst ā€˜-leen’ is pretty, it might take a little bit of explaining? Not the end of the world though! I knew a girl called [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_u]Marie[/name_u] who went by [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], which I thought was cute.

Madeline is beautiful! :ribbon:

I prefer the Madeleine spelling (Mad-duh-lenne/lun pronunciation) and would presume your spelling was ā€œlineā€ as in lyne/straight line.

The Madeleines I know are Maddie, Mattie and Leni/Lenny. Dell/Dolly/Della etc other options, possibly Mally, Molly or Moppy at a stretch.

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is lovely! It makes me think of the children’s book, which is a sweet association. I’ve never heard the ā€œleenā€ pronunciation; I like it a lot, though I do think it might take a little extra work to get it to stick. On to your questions:

Is it too overdone? I’ll admit that between all the different spelling variations (Madelyn/Madeleine/etc.), I’ve met a lot of people with this name. That being said, I think it’s popular for good reason and I don’t get sick of hearing it!

Is it dated? I definitely don’t consider it dated; this spelling in particular feels really timeless to me.

Creative nickname ideas? With your pronunciation, I’d definitely go for [name_f]Lina[/name_f]! I’m with you that Maddie’s not my favorite, but it could be tough to completely avoid. I do know at least one [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] who’s managed to dodge it though!

Sweet name! I wouldn’t choose it if you dislike [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] though

Ooh, I haven’t come across the ā€œ-leenā€ pronunciation before… very pretty!

I must admit that I would automatically have pronounced it ā€œ-lineā€, and I think many others would probably do the same.

It would be tricky to avoid the nn [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] entirely, although you could maybe go with something like [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] instead? [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe, at a stretch, [name_f]Mally[/name_f] / [name_f]Mallie[/name_f]?

I love it! I especially like the [name_u]French[/name_u] pronunciation. [name_f]My[/name_f] only problem with this beautiful name is a very sad association (this little kidnapped girl. :pensive:). Because of that I would not want to use it.

i’m not used to the -leen ending, so it feels quite quirky and delicate !! not overdone, but definitely common - she’s in the familiar but cute zone for me at the moment, but i could see her losing her sparkle if i meet many more.

madeline doesn’t seem dated to me at all, and in fact pretty timeless, although i do slightly associate it with around when i was born (2000s) just because i know so many my age. the leen pronunciation feels a little older than lin or line that i’m used to, so if any of them were to feel dated, it would be this.

for creative nicknames:

minnie
mia
milly
della
madie (prn. like may-dee)
lina
malina
mina
addie
ada
malla
melya
minna
delie
linnie
lady
masha
dasha?

With the -leen ending, I am a fan. It skyrocketed 15 years or so ago but most were -lyn ending sound.

To me, it’s simply classic and will not see another big rise right now since it’s just coming off of one.

I don’t like nn but if you must, what about [name_f]Lena[/name_f]? [name_u]Del[/name_u] is also simple and sweet.
