Madilyn spelling.

I’m leaning towards the name [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f] ([name_f]Maddie[/name_f]), but unsure which way to spell it. My favorite spelling is [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f] first then [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]. My husband likes [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], which worries me that people will pronounce it wrong, say line instead of lyn. I’m not fond of the original spelling [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]. My only issue with [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f] is spell check doesn’t recognize it, and someone pointed out withe the spelling [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] the it has the word made, which i don’t really like, but it is the most common American spelling. Can I get opinions on your favorite spelling? Thanks!

I would use [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], it’s the most straightforward for the pronunciation you want. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is pronounced mad-uh-line, so I would choose that unless you’re prepared for a prn. you don’t like. my favorite is [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], but since you don’t like that, I think [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is the next best option.

There’s sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many spelling of this name that I guess, theoretically, anything could work (and it scares me to say that, given that I know a: [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], Maddelyn, [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f], Maddilyn, Maddalyn, Madalen, Madelenn, Madyln, Maddalynn, [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], Maddaline, and some spellings that I can’t even remember right now). To get the pronunciation you want, I think [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is the best option. It’s at least somewhat recognizable and isn’t too crazy.

Is [name_f]Madalyn[/name_f] an option? I like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] the best though, I feel like it has the pronunciation you want. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] would be Mad-eh-line (remember the movie?).

There is more than one legitimate pronunciation for [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. That would be my choice. I’ve actually only heard the -line pronunciation when referring to the character, girls I know named [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] are -lynn.

My favorite spelling is [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and I would pronounce it the way you want it. [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] would be my second choice. Beautiful name!

I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but if you are opposed to it, then I would go with [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].

I know [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]'s that use the lyn prn. I think [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] look the nicest. After those two I would use [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].

I know a [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f] and I know a [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]. I actually prefer [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f], and she spells her nn Madi–which I think is cuter than standard [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]/[name_f]Maddy[/name_f] Definitely [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f].

(I would definitely pronounce [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] with line instead of lyn, so definitely go with [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] if you want that name.)

My favorite spelling is Madeleine, followed by Madeline, then Madelyn. I know there are so many ways to spell this name, but for me those 3 spellings seem like the most popular and legitimate ones. I’m from southeastern USA and pronounce them all Ma-duh-lyn. I remember the children’s book being pronounced Ma-duh-line.

For nicknames, Maddie is my favorite. The -ie ending comes off as feminine to me. It also fun to write in cursive. Maddy would be second. Mady and Madi both seem incomplete to me.

I highly dislike the spelling of [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f], and I love [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], but if you are worried about pronunciation issues, go with [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].
I agree with tamparays8, [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] is my favorite nickname. [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] is alright, but [name_f]Mady[/name_f] and Madi seem like they would be pronounced [name_f]May[/name_f]-dee.

My personal favourite would be the traditional [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], or [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (I would pronounce the latter leen as the [name_m]French[/name_m] do). I find the y spellings to be modern versions not nearly as beautiful as the traditional

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]! It’s much more classy for me.
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is okay.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] have a different ending in [name_m]French[/name_m].
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is Mah-duh-lay-nn
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is Mah-duh-leen

Personally I think that the [name_f]Madilyn[/name_f] spelling is much prettier. And to get the pronunciation you want I think you need to stick with your spelling of ‘-lyn’.
