Mae as a nickname for...please help!

So I have found a name I truly love, [name]Mae[/name]…but for some reason it just feels like more of a nickname, and not substantial enough for a first name. Are there any more ‘formal’ first names that this would work as a nickname for? I’m having trouble coming up with anything beyond [name]Maeve[/name], which I’m not crazy about.

would love your opinions!

[name]Mae[/name] is traditionally a nn for [name]Margaret[/name]!

There’s also [name]Marguerite[/name] and [name]Margot[/name].

Or what about [name]Mabel[/name]? I love this name!

Best of luck!

Thank you for your great advice! Can anyone think of another name besides [name]Margaret[/name] that creates so many amazing nicknames!? I can’t!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Maeve[/name]?

I also like pp’s [name]Mabel[/name] suggestion.

Also, I always thought the name Maeby from Arrested Development was really cute.

I’d say [name]Elizabeth[/name] is the only one that rivals [name]Margaret[/name] as far as nn’s! With [name]Catherine[/name] in 3rd place lol.

it could work as a nickname for [name]Esme[/name]…

I love the suggestion of [name]Mabel[/name], or if you really want to go quirky vintage there’s also Maybelline

Some others

[name]Aime[/name]” (pr. e-[name]MAY[/name])
[name]Malin[/name]
[name]Maelys[/name]
[name]Amabel[/name]
[name]Maribel[/name]

[name]Mabel[/name] is growing on me! It’s going on the top of the list…ty!

My middle name is [name]Mae[/name] and so I’ve tossed out [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Esme[/name] as potential names for a daughter, since they’re too close.

You could do what my great great grandmother did and have a double name with [name]Mae[/name] ([name]Etta[/name] [name]Mae[/name]) and be called by [name]Mae[/name].

My mother named me after my G.G.Grandmother and also a friend named [name]Michael[/name], so maybe [name]Michaela[/name] ‘[name]Mae[/name]’ if that even remotely appeals to you.

I’d say my name, [name]Alexandra[/name] offers a crazy amount of nicknames ([name]Allie[/name], [name]Sandra[/name], [name]Andy[/name], [name]Lexie[/name], [name]Lex[/name], [name]Alex[/name], [name]Alexa[/name], [name]Lexis[/name], [name]Xandra[/name], [name]Lexa[/name], etc.) Though, most aren’t exactly on the same par as the nicknames of [name]Margaret[/name].

I know a little girl named Maegen who goes by [name]Mae[/name]. What about [name]Mabry[/name]?

You could always have [name]Mae[/name] as her middle name, but use it as her nickname. My greatgrandmother’s name was [name]Eva[/name] [name]Mae[/name], which I think is lovely :). My boyfriend’s name is [name]William[/name] [name]Matthew[/name], but everyone calls him [name]Matt[/name], and it doesn’t bother him one bit.
