I am from the [name_u]Southern[/name_u] US (Missouri/Oklahoma/Arkansas). I say [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] ending in the [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] sound and [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] ending with the Leen/Lean sound. I say the first two syllables the same, like Mag-Duh.

I’m from the southern US and they are the same to me, with a “-lynn”/“-len” sound. I wouldn’t be surprised if I met a [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] and she said it “-leen” but [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] has always been a “-lynn”/“-len” sound here.

I’m from the southern US (Louisiana,) and I would initially pronounce them the same way- with a len ending. However, I may also pronounce [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] with a lane ending.

[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] is -lehn and [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is -leen/-lynn to me! I’m from :greece: but I’ve also lived in :uk:

@GreenEyes375 @Youssarian @Mrs.Humbleby I didn’t realize we had so many southern US people in here! I’m from the region too. I’ve always heard it pronounced like mag-duh-lyn regardless of the spelling, but came across someone online pronouncing it [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] with a long E when spelled that way and I became curious if different areas of the world pronounced it differently.

I’d say:

[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] → mag-duh-lunn

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] → mag-duh-lane

Both would be somewhere between MAG-də-lin and MAG-də-lən for me. I’m from Poland.

I’m from the southwest United States and I pronounce [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] the exact same way as (mag-duh-lyn)

as names, i would pronounce them both like MAG-duh-lin, and i’m english !! however, magdalen spelt like this makes me want to say MAUD-lin, as there’s an oxford college spelt and pronounced like that, and i’m in an environment at the moment where that’s the context i by far see “magdalen” in the most.

I’m from the Southern US! I would initially say both of these as Mag-duh-lyn, but I could see Magdalene as Mag-duh-leen or Mag-duh-layne
