Magdalen vs Magdalene - How to pronounce?

I have seen two different spellings-
[name]Magdalen[/name]
[name]Magdalene[/name]

[name]How[/name] do you pronounce both? [name]IMO[/name],
[name]Magdalen[/name]- “[name]Mag[/name]-duh-lin”
[name]Magdalene[/name] “[name]Mag[/name]-duh-lin” (or is the ‘e’ at the end pronounced?)

I would say [name]Mag[/name]-dah-len for [name]Magdalen[/name] and [name]Mag[/name]-dah-leen for [name]Magdalene[/name].

I’d say both as ‘mag-da-len’.

I am contemplating [name]Magdalen[/name] [name]Mercy[/name] for a girl…too much of an alliteration?

I pronounced both as [name]Mag[/name]-da-len.

People typically think of [name]Mary[/name] [name]Magdalene[/name] with this name, and as a lifelong church attendee, I’m pretty sure both are pronounced [name]Mag[/name]-duh-lin. [name]Magdalena[/name] is the one that changed the pronunciation.

I would say [name]Magdalene[/name] as “[name]Magdaleen[/name]” or “Magdalayna”, depending on which origin you choose to emphasize. When referring [name]Magdalen[/name] I would pronounce as “[name]Magda[/name]-lenn” (not “[name]Lynn[/name]”).

I think [name]Magdalene[/name] [name]Mercy[/name] (prn Magdaleyna [name]Mercy[/name]) would be great. It’s definitely not too much alliteration.

I think [name]Magdalen/name [name]Mercy[/name] is lovely! M is a letter that works well with alliteration, and the religious imagery of the name is great. I’d be inclined to pr [name]Magdalen[/name] and [name]Magdalene[/name] basically how they look, and differently, -lenn for [name]Magdalen[/name] and -leen for [name]Magdalene[/name].

This is how I say them… I like [name]Magdalene[/name] best.
[name]Magdalen[/name] - [name]Mag[/name]-da-len
[name]Magdalene[/name] - [name]Mag[/name]-da-Lean

For me, being in [name]England[/name], I have never heard [name]Magdalen[/name] as a name but know it through the colleges at [name]Oxford[/name] & Cambridge, [name]Magdalen[/name] College, and this is pronounced [name]Maud[/name]-len, not [name]Mag[/name]-da-len. I am afraid this is unhelpful but considering it has English roots, that is how I pronounce it! For the name it probably IS [name]Mag[/name]-da-len, but I am so accustomed to [name]Maud[/name]-len.
