I was sitting all bored in science class today, counting the seconds until the bell rang until a word in the book caught my eye. Magma. I got to thinking that would be a cool name for a girl! WDYT?
It’s a cool name in theory, but maybe an alternative like Magga would be more practical? I can’t help thinking of volcanoes wreaking havoc on people/cities when I hear Magma.
My first connotation is with the type of motorcycle called the Honda Magma. My brother has one
I can see the appeal, but I feel like Magna would be prettier.
[name_f]Magda[/name_f]–yes; magma–no. Would you really want to be named for volcanic ooze?
It’s like naming your kid Lava or Volcano. Theoretically plausible, but as rkrd said, would you really want to be named after it?
I think I get the appeal. It does have similar elements to a number of feminine names (the [name_f]Mag[/name_f]- from [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], etc. and the -ma from [name_f]Selma[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Uma[/name_f], etc.), but it’s not usable [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Everyone knows what magma is (or at least they should!), so the geology connection isn’t exactly subtle. It would be like naming your daughter Lava.
I can totally relate. While learning [name_u]SI[/name_u] units in chemistry the other day, I was pondering how the term [name_f]Candela[/name_f] would be a cute name. (It’s actually the [name_u]SI[/name_u] unit for luminous intensity, meaning how intense a light is. Kind of cool)
Undfortunately, Magma doesn’t do much for me. It does sound a little too…destructive.
Thanks everyone!
Beter on a cat. It reminds me of my cat Lava.
I am starting to remember a berry who posted here as Kelslovesjesus…
Hmm.
Reminds me of [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Evil - “piping hot [name_f]MAG[/name_f]-MA!”
You all are too negative! Magma would be an awesome name! It’s not the same as naming a kid Lava or Volcano. It’s more similar to naming a child Willow or Sapphire or literally any word name. People have been given much worse names and I would think it’s pretty awesome to meet someon named Magma. Totally useable!
Perhaps in the past 9 years people are more open to a name like Magma
