Magnus - a good strong name?

opinions on [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]

Me and DH were always set on [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] after our grandfathers, but we really like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m].

Is it too strong a name with two children with ‘ee’ ending nick namey names?

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is nice enough, I find it a little dull since it is like the equivalent of [name_m]Steven[/name_m] where I live, very very common and kind of a ‘dad’ name. But a nice classic.

I think [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] sounds like it would fit in better with your other children’s names, and maybe you would regret not going with your original intention to honour your grandfathers. If you were always set on [name_u]Bertie[/name_u], and this [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] thing is just a recent crush, I would go with [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] because I think you will be glad you did in the long run, with the family connection especially. But if you truly love [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] best, there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t think it’s ‘too strong’, but maybe that’s because I know so many Magnuses and they are just ordinary men so it seems like such an everyday name to me.

I agree with jackal. You don’t want to regret not using a family name that has significance to both of you. If you don’t live in a Scandinavian country, I would recommend you don’t use [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] because it does come off as strong and maybe even stern. I can’t say how people in the UK or [name_f]Canada[/name_f] or other English speaking countries would react, but I think it’s not popular in [name_u]America[/name_u] for that reason.

I like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. Especially after reading the mortal instruments. Although everytime I see it I automatically think of Magnum condoms. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you already have a middle name? What about [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]?

I just came on to ask about [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], definitely a strong name. I found it in a baby name book and it fits my us ending crush I have on boys names.
You could use it as a middle or use [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as a middle?
I’m in Australia, so I had no idea it was common in Scandinavia.
