[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I am completely new to nameberry but I found it recently and thought I could check it out. I’m a beginner writer, and I’ve been having some trouble with my main character’s best friend name.
The main character is a girl, and her best friend is also a girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] main character’s name is [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. The friend’s name was originally [name_u]Madison[/name_u] (called [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] for short), but it wasn’t really clicking with me. I haven’t really thought about the name a ton, since she isn’t as involved in the story as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] thinks about her all the time.
Any ideas?

I’ve been creating imaginary worlds and making up stories since I was a toddler, writing children’s stories as a child and started manuscript writing around age 13.
For me, character naming is a process as their name represents the characters, their personalities, or at the very least, their parents personalities. I once named a character [name_f]Libby[/name_f], but her name was [name_u]Liberty[/name_u] because her parents were stuck in the 60s and 70s hippy lifestyle and her sister was [name_f]Nattie[/name_f], short for [name_u]Nature[/name_u].
I try to add a nice brief story about how my character feels about their name if they are important enough. For instance, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] might say that [name_u]June[/name_u] suits her name because she reminds her of a classic storybook character with elegance and poise, like the calm summer month.
