Hi! We just found out our second baby will be another girl. Our toddler is Aurora, named after the Northern Lights. We’re looking for another nature-y name that leans more into the “conjures up images of spectacular nature” more so than floral names. Some that I liked that my husband has vetoed are:
Jasper (after the Canadian national park)
Aspen
I also like Autumn, but our kid will be born in February, so I don’t know if that works
So far the only one we both sort of like is River, but it’s maybe a little too “obvious” and less “evokes the idea of,” if that makes sense?
Any suggestions for girly/unisex names that are more “mountain/forest” and less “flower?”
Thanks!
I think Autumn is lovely! Her birthday doesn’t really matter, I know many Summer’s who weren’t born in the summer!
Alternatively, maybe:
Artemis - due to the huntress association
Auburn - the colour feels very autumnal to me!
Aster / Astra - the meanings are related to stars
Aneira - means “much snow”
Bryony - maybe too flowery for you, but it’s technically a plant, not a flower, so I though it might work
Briar - same as Bryony!
Bea - sounds the same as “bee” and brings to mind spring
Camellia - a flower, but I think the sound is maybe majestic enough!
Celeste / Celestia / Celestine - reminds me of “celestial” and brings to mind a night sky
Cypress - after the trees
Dahlia - again, a flower name but maybe elegant-sounding enough to work!
Dianthe - means “divine flower”
Dove - after the bird
Delphine - reminds me of dolphins, but also delphiniums, the scientific name for larkspur flowers!
Evanthe - means “fair flower”
Eira - means “snow”
Estelle - means “star”
Flora - doesn’t get more naturey than this!
Florence - similar to Flora, though the nature connection is less obvious
Fauna - again, a similar idea
Fawn - a gentle animal name with a beautiful pine forest image
Fern - plant name
Gwyneira - means “white snow”
Indigo - brings to mind a lot of blue things in nature, from indigo skies to dark purple flowers
Juniper - after the tree
Leonora / Leonie / Leona / Leonor / Leonore - the lion association!
Lavender - a flower name but one that I think is a lot less dainty than others!
Linnea - means linden tree or twinflower
Linden - after the tree
Louisa - another name for lemon verbena herbs
Laurel - after the plant & herb
Lilac - A flower, but also a colour that brings great nature imagery to mind
Lumi - the Finnish word for “snow”
Marina - makes me think of beautiful seas and harbours!
Maren - means “sea”
Mira - means “ocean”
Meadow - self-explanatory
Olympia - reminds me of mountains à la Mount Olympus
Olive - olive trees
Opal - the gemstone
Ostara - after the ancient holiday of the autumnal harvest & it means “dawn” just like Aurora
Oriana - also means “dawn”
Persephone - a name related to the changing of seasons and especially spring
Peregrine - like a peregrine falcon
Palmer - like palm trees
Paloma - means “dove”
Prairie - also self-explanatory
Pearl - after the gemstone
Raina / Rain - the rain imagery
Rowan - the plant
Rue - the plant
Roxy / Roxanna - means “dawn”
Solstice
Soleil - means “sun”
Seren - means “star”
Susannah - can have Sunny as a nickname
Sylvie - means “from the forest”
Thalassa - “sea” in Greek
Willow - after the tree
Winter
Wren - after the bird
Zora - means “dawn”

Oh I love the naturey names and I do love the meaning behind [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
Here goes, sorry for any repeats -
[name_u]Denali[/name_u] (secretly love this one)
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] (I like the double R and double L sounds with Aurora)
[name_u]Lark[/name_u] (one of my all time favs)
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_u]Montana[/name_u]
[name_u]Branch[/name_u]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
Some suggestions I don’t think have been mentioned yet:
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Ravenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
[name_f]Opaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Perlina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvana[/name_f]
[name_u]Alaska[/name_u]
[name_f]Bronte[/name_f]
[name_f]Carina[/name_f]
[name_u]Aquila[/name_u]
I do not think a baby born in [name_u]February[/name_u] is excluded from being [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]. [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is my favorite season. That’s reason enough for me. I know a sibset of three girls named [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], and [name_f]Ava[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] for the exact feelings you’re mentioning.
A favourite name with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] that evokes nature similarly for me is [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u]. It shares the elegant beauty of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], and makes me think of willows.
I feel like [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] also fits well. It is both nature/tree and an established name. It feels slightly unisex and goes well with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. I also always think of [name_u]Juno[/name_u] as a nature adjacent name, reminds me of [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_u]Juno[/name_u] are darling.
A bit of a wild card idea is [name_u]Brighton[/name_u]. It always feels natural and wordy to me, because of the [name_u]Bright[/name_u]- part. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] are amazing.
And a few more random ideas that evoke nature, or are spin offs of nature words: [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_f]Jada[/name_f], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] and [name_f]Raina[/name_f]. [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] and [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] feelvm very foresty. [name_f]Jada[/name_f] is maybe the least natural of all, but I like the jade connection and [name_u]Jade[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Raina[/name_f] are beautiful.
