Major?

What are your thoughts on the name [name_m]Major[/name_m]?

My DH brought it up and I despite the fact that it’s not my typical style I kind of…like it? Especially with the alliteration of our last name and nn [name_u]Maj[/name_u]. Or am I crazy?

[name_m]Major[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] M@c[name_f]Kimmie[/name_f]

Thanks,
x

Much too associated with the military for me, sorry.
I do kind of like the nn [name_u]Maj[/name_u] though

Agree with greyblue, just sounds like his name is [name_m]Robert[/name_m] and major is his rank.

I like it. On the sitcom [name_m]King[/name_m] of Queens, the main couples’ best friends had a son named [name_m]Major[/name_m] and I always thought it was cute.

Honestly I’m not a fan. Title/rank names just don’t sit right with me and in some countries there’s even legal prohibitions on names like these! If your partner felt very strongly about using it I would consider it as a middle and only in the middle. When I think of all the lovely names you’ve considered over the months, this pales in comparison.

As a middle name, I think it could work as a unique incorporation! I don’t like it much as a first name, because I’m not a fan of rank names - like pp said, I’m pretty sure there are restrictions. All I can think of is the military, sorry!

Like others said, I’d assume [name_m]Major[/name_m] was his title, not his name.
Title names feel a bit tacky to me, if I’m being honest. [name_m]Major[/name_m] isn’t as bad as something like [name_f]Princess[/name_f], but I don’t think it’s great.

I actually like [name_m]Major[/name_m], even though it’s not my style. If you are really considering this name, look into the connections with Catch 22. They aren’t bad references, it’s just my first association when I hear [name_m]Major[/name_m] as a name!

Thanks for all your input!

I don’t think the military issue would be as strong in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] — but maybe we will reserve it for a nickname.

I mean it reminds me of like when someones says college major, but I think it’s still cute as a name.

[name_m]Major[/name_m] isn’t my style and I think of the word/title first. However, there is a surname [name_m]Major[/name_m] which for me gives it some legitimacy as a first name.

There’s a [name_m]Major[/name_m] on iZombie. Great character and a good show. He ironically names his dog [name_m]Minor[/name_m]. Very cute.

I like it, I think it’s usable in most places and it definitely won’t be the weirdest or worst name on the playground. My Girl goes to daycare with a Lycra and a Stump. Which tells me people either put not enough or [name_m]WAY[/name_m] too much thought into a name.

If your first instinct was to like it, then it’s usable and will fit your style and your kid. I’d consider it if we had another boy. OK, maybe I really like it…

I agree with mamapirate, [name_m]Major[/name_m] isn’t the worst thing. But I would also think of future siblings and what their names will be.
