[name_f]Frances[/name_f] has a sort of cosy, clunky feel - classic but unexpected.

I’d consider nicknames: [name_f]Fran[/name_f], [name_m]Frankie[/name_m], Esse, [name_f]Effie[/name_f], Fizzy/Fizz

I’d consider combos: [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]

I recently came across a family with a little girl names [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - they call her [name_f]Francie[/name_f] which I think is absolutely adorable!!

oooh i love that!

[name_m]Ever[/name_m] since I learned that [name_f]Frances[/name_f] was the daughter of [name_m]Curt[/name_m] [name_m]Cobain[/name_m] and [name_f]Courtney[/name_f] [name_f]Love[/name_f] she’s had a very Seattle grunge - ripped jeans, flannel shirts, and loose fitting cardigans - feel to me. At the same time she feels very buttoned up and [name_f]British[/name_f]. The author who wrote “The [name_f]Secret[/name_f] Garden” was named [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and it’s also a 15th century [name_m]Roman[/name_m] saint name. I used to write off [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as being overly prim and stuffy, but I’ve been steadily falling in love with her too lately. She clearly has a lot of hidden depth and mystery.

I adore the name [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. It has such a pretty sound. I dislike the nickname [name_m]Frankie[/name_m] so I would use [name_f]Francie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Cece[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister is [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and I’ve always thought it was a cool name.

She was Frannie/Franny as a child and is [name_f]Fran[/name_f] to very close friends now. But she goes by [name_f]Frances[/name_f] mostly these days.

She is [name_f]Frances[/name_f] He!en.

Frances is lovely! I think it’s very sweet and elegant. My favorite nicknames are Cece, Francie, Fifi, Nan, Essie, Frenchie, and Fancy/Fancie.

I wouldn’t say I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but I defs really like it, it has a sort of staid nerdy-cool that I like. I absolutely adore [name_f]Francie[/name_f] as a nn or stand-alone. It has the appeal of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] but is more leftfield.

I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f]! Specifically with [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as a nickname but [name_f]Francie[/name_f] is cute too. I have very strong sunshine, adventure, curiosity, mischief type imagery associated with it that makes me really happy.

Honestly, I am not super into vintage or classic names, but [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is one of my exceptions. It sounds delicate but earthy, feminine in a really unexpected way, and it feels like the clunky, fanciful sister to buttoned up names like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. And the nicknames! There’s [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_m]Frankie[/name_m], [name_f]Fran[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], even [name_f]Anya[/name_f].

For combos, I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] with a quirky Celtic name ie [name_f]Tesni[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], or a word name like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rain[/name_f]. But it fits really well with all kinds of options. I feel like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is one of those rare names that can quirk up a popular choice (ie [name_f]Ava[/name_f] Frances) or ground a more out there name (ie [name_f]Frances[/name_f] Rhiannon). It’s just so versatile.
