WDYT of the name Makiya? It is pronounced like [name_m]Michaiah[/name_m] and I love the meaning. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any combos for it? Thanks!
I’d prefer it spelled [name_m]Michaiah[/name_m], and even then would prefer it on a boy.
To me, Makiya, looks like it would be pronounced muh-[name_f]KIA[/name_f]. If it were to be used, I think a classic mn choice would be a nice balance. Like Makiya [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], Makiya [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
@Ollieollie: Thanks for the input, I really like Makiya [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I think it’s cute for a girl but I’m not a fan of that spelling. I also think a traditional middle name would be a good choice.
Sorry, I find it very awkward to say.
Misspellings of biblical male names on girls? No thanks.
Malaika means angel in Swahili (and is commonly used in several other African languages) which I really like, pronounced mah-lye-kah.
With that spelling I would pronounce it Mi-[name_m]Ky[/name_m]-ah
Thanks for the input, everyone!
@Oliviasarah: [name_m]Just[/name_m] so you know, Makiya is not a misspelling. I believe it is the feminine form of [name_m]Michaiah[/name_m].
Miciah is how someone (female I know) spells it. I don’t think it’s as bad as people are saying. No one gives her a hard time about her name.
My thoughts too. And isn’t that [name_u]Jordyn[/name_u] Duggar’s middle name?
I actually know 2 Miciahs, 1 male & 1 female.
I think of [name_u]Jordyn[/name_u]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f] Makiya Duggar, as well. I always sort of liked her name, and I remember liking the meaning (although I don’t remember at all what it is now), but if Makiya(h) is a trendy feminine spelling, after all, I am not the hugest fan. I can’t really find any reliable information about it atm, but over the past several years, I have liked it quite a bit, and still do like the sound. I would never use [name_m]Micaiah[/name_m] on a girl, though–it’s strictly boy, imo.
Makiya isn’t my cup of tea but if it feels right, I say use it.
Personally, I would just use the traditionally male name [name_m]Michaiah[/name_m] on the baby girl. It would preserve the name’s origins and avoid confusion with Makaya/[name_f]Makayla[/name_f]/[name_u]Makenzie[/name_u] cluster names.
One thing against this name is that it looks like a yooneek spelling even if it is authentic and that being the case I would avoid it.
