Lately my partner has been bringing these 2 names up more and more frequently and moving them higher on our list. Only thing is, we both don’t know which one we love more… we would love some further opinions on them both to help with our decisions about placement on our short list 
So basically, [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] or [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]? And why?
I prefer [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] for the sole reason that [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] is the name of a bird on a really really weird TV show - “The Regular Show”. My younger brother watches it and it appears to be somewhat gross. Also I just love [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] a similar suggestion: [name_m]Mikhail[/name_m]

I prefer [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] because it’s softer sounding than [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m].
I don’t like the nn “[name_u]Kai[/name_u]”/"[name_u]Cai[/name_u]" because it’s a very trendy name at the moment so at least [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] has the nn “[name_u]Mal[/name_u]”. [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] comes up a bit short on the nn front for me.
Thanks for the input… seems like [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] is quite a popular choice haven’t heard of the Regular Show, might have to check it out for the reference to [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
I too like [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], I don’t know why, it just sounds better I think.
My vote’s for [name_m]Malachi[/name_m].
I love them both, but [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] has more nickname options ([name_u]Mal[/name_u], [name_m]Mac[/name_m], [name_u]Kai[/name_u]) and [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] I can only come up with “[name_u]Kai[/name_u]” as a nickname. And somehow, maybe it’s just me, but “[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]” seems like less of a mouthful than “[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]”.
I like [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] more, mal being Latin for bad and mord being [name_m]German[/name_m] for murder… Sometimes that kind of thing bothers me, like words in names but [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] I quite like, also [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].
I prefer [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] because [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] starts with the same sound as morgue and mort and reminds me of death. I’m sorry if I just ruined the name for anyone. I do love that [name_u]Kai[/name_u] could be a nickname for either one.
I guess I’m in the minority in liking [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] so much I don’t mind, it’s one of my favourite names.
By the way, I’m not a fan of [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] at all.
I like them both. I’ve always liked [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], but have you seen the movie Children of the Corn? Yikes.
I like both names. I prefer [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] slightly because [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] always makes me think of morgues. It’s an odd connection that is only in my head, but that is honestly why I like [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]. I guess you could say [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] has “lighter sounds"
I actually quite like [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]! It’s unusual but has a sense of familiarity where as [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] is just a little too trendy for me. The nickname thing doesn’t bother me as my family was never big on nicknames and I think [name_u]Kai[/name_u]/[name_u]Cai[/name_u] is a cute suitable nickname ([name_u]Mal[/name_u] to me is a very feminine nickname and reminds me of [name_f]Mallory[/name_f]). I always pronounce [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] as “Mah-lock-ee” in my head for some reason and it drives me nuts! [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] was also the kid from Children of the Corn,which I personally think is a stronger association than the cartoon show that Mordecai could be associated with, especially as the child gets older.

Haha… some very interesting points on both these names which are great to read… but with the nickname thing aside, I’m starting to feel like [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] is seen as a little less trendy, plus, an amazing biblical character will outway a children’s tv character
I love love love [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] but I think that [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] works better as an actually name, I just can’t see [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] on a little boy or teenage.
I like [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] so much more because [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] reminds me of death for some reason. I love the nickname Macca for both though.
