[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] has been growing me since someone on another board used the name. I don’t like it as a first name, but I’ve been thinking about adding it to my list of potential middles. It’s not as common as my other favorites, which I consider a huge plus. I don’t have a problem with popular names, but it’s bit tiring to have people saying how popular my favorites names are.

So, thoughts on the name [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]?

The ‘[name_u]Mal[/name_u]’ of the name doesn’t bother me. The associations to [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] X and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] In The Middle don’t bother me either.

I really like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. My BFF had this on her short list for her baby. She ended up having a girl so I don’t know if she would have had a baby [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], but I would have been pleased with it. :slight_smile: It’s familiar but not popular, which I like.

That’s one of the reasons I like it also. What name did she go with for a girl, if you don’t mind sharing?

I really like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. I suggested it to my husband once, but he said it’s “too Scottish”. He’s too Irish to give his kid a Scottish name, or some such nonsense…

I actually quite like the nickname ‘[name_u]Mal[/name_u]’ for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. Its rugged and handsome. As for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] by itself, I love it.

I’m curious what you guys would pair with [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] if his brothers were [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

I loove [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]! I especially love the nn [name_u]Mal[/name_u] because of Firefly/[name_f]Serenity[/name_f]. I doubt that most people would make somewhat dated pop culture references to the name (like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] in the Middle).

I’m not sure I can help with first names for it, as I like it so much as a first itself, but if I had used it, the full name would have been [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].

Thank you everyone for your opinions. I’m definitely adding [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] to my list of middles. I think it fits in very well with my other names.

I can’t get past the mal part that totally ruins it for me and even if I didn’t mind the mal part it does nothing for me. I would prefer [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] for example.
