My grandmother’s name is [name]Gayle[/name], but I’ve fallen hard for [name]Gale[/name] on a boy. I also have a Great Grandpa [name]Galen[/name], so that would be an option.
Is it too weird to name a boy [name]Gale[/name] if his great grandmother would also be [name]Gayle[/name]? Or would it be alright?
I had a great uncle [name]Gale[/name], and I think it is a cool name! [name]Galen[/name] is also awesome, and I think I prefer it over [name]Gale[/name], although both are wonderful names. I don’t see a problem with using [name]Gale[/name]. He can be a namesake if you want him to be, and if not, that’s okay, too.
I knew a man named [name]Galen[/name] once, but he pronounced it gal-en (the A like in [name]Cat[/name]). I think it sounds much better with the [name]Gale[/name] sound though. I actually really like it and think it very sweet and could work.
I think it would be okay. I like the idea of [name]Galen[/name] nn [name]Gale[/name] more, personally, but I think either could work. My uncle’s MN is my first name so I don’t think it’s the weirdest thing in the world, haha.
Good luck!
I think the first syllable is too much teasing potential, if I’m pronouncing [name]Galen[/name] correctly. And [name]Gale[/name] seems very trendy in the wake of Hunger Games. If it weren’t for those two associations, though, I would totally love both names!
I’m still ages away from children, so hopefully the trendiness from the Hunger Games will have faded. If not… well, the Hunger Games is a good series, so I’d probably still consider it.
And [name]Galen[/name] might not work, but I still have a love for it… so I guess I’ll wait and see, haha.
I absolutely love the name [name]Galen[/name] and it is on my list as well! My hubby worries that it sounds too much like gay and therefore has the potential for teasing, but I think it sounds strong and lovely, especially paired with our Irish O’ surname. I vote for [name]Galen[/name]!
[name]Gale[/name] is definitely doable. I really like it
I vote [name]Galen[/name] for you too! I’ve always thought it was very strong. Going back a bit farther in my family tree, my great grandpa [name]Galen[/name] was a very strong man, so I’ve always thought of it with him in mind as well. He wore itvery well.
I [name]LOVE[/name] it. I have a grandma named [name]Gail[/name] and am considering [name]Gale[/name] at least for a mn for a boy. I think it’s very handsome. Use it!
I like [name]Gale[/name]. I also don’t see it getting too popular for boys despite the popularity of The Hunger Games; I do think though that it’ll make people see it as more of a strong viable boys name and not just the outdated female [name]Gail[/name]/[name]Gayle[/name]. Sidenote: my brothers considering the middle name [name]Gael[/name] for a boy and, honestly, if I hadn’t read the hunger games I would’ve wrinkled my nose and protested, “but that’s a GIRL’S name!” Now not so much.
And to add!: I think Galen is nice (only if you’re pronouncing it as a pp said with the a as in cat, I don’t like gay-len or gayl-in), but with that being said I vote for Gale!
I don’t care for [name]Gale[/name] or [name]Galen[/name] as a fist name, especially for a boy. I had the idea of [name]Gabriel[/name], it has similar sounds to [name]Gayle[/name] and gives the great nickname [name]Gabe[/name]. [name]Gayle[/name] also means joy, so perhaps a name with a similar meaning would also honor her?
Also, I like [name]Gael[/name], I pronounce it guy-el
Personally, I would choose the full name [name]Galen[/name] to put on the birth certificate and use [name]Gale[/name] as a nickname. FYI - [name]One[/name] of the richest men in [name]Canada[/name] is called [name]Galen[/name] [name]Weston[/name] so I don’t think the name hindered him in any way!
You could always think of [name]Gale[/name] or [name]Galen[/name] as a namesake of those people in your family, but if it was my choice, I would put [name]Gale[/name] / [name]Galen[/name] in the middle name spot, it would also make your child feel more unique!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Galen[/name]! I automatically think of canadian “royalty” Mr. [name]Galen[/name] [name]Weston[/name] and his son [name]Galen[/name] [name]Weston[/name] [name]Jr[/name] - but definitely a family to look up too. [name]Lovely[/name] men indeed.
I’d say go for it!

I really like [name]Galen[/name]. I do like [name]Gale[/name] and I doubt there are many little girls named [name]Gail[/name] nowadays.
