I need suggestions for male names that would be okay on a girl (me, name change). Maybe something kind of cute even. Impossible challenge?
Longer explanation, feel free to skip:
I want to change my name soon, but the registrar will only allow my chosen female first name if I add a male second name.
Second name has to be 100% male, so no gender-neutral names like [name_m]Sam[/name_m], [name_f]Bailey[/name_f], [name_m]Kai[/name_m] or [name_m]Noel[/name_m].
The only name I kind of liked was [name_m]Noel[/name_m] because it can be pronounced like [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], but that isn’t even male enough for my registrar because Wikipedia said it was unisex even though it’s male in name books. So stupid.
If I cannot find anything better I guess I will pick [name_m]Levi[/name_m] or [name_m]Everett[/name_m] or something? No idea how people would react to that.
[name_m]Logan[/name_m] - used for girls quite commonly in the US, but I think it’d still count as masculine and not unisex?
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - has that more feminine -rose ending
[name_m]Aris[/name_m], [name_m]Francis[/name_m], [name_m]Alois[/name_m], Amadis, [name_m]Denis[/name_m], [name_m]Elis[/name_m], [name_m]Ennis[/name_m], [name_m]Floris[/name_m], [name_m]Haris[/name_m] / [name_m]Harris[/name_m], [name_m]Loris[/name_m], - I feel like the -is endings look quite unisex!
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_m]Cassander[/name_m]
[name_m]Cassian[/name_m]
[name_m]Dorian[/name_m]
[name_m]Flynn[/name_m]
[name_m]Ira[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Luca[/name_m]
[name_m]Lyle[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] / [name_m]Lucien[/name_m]
[name_m]Maxim[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Niall[/name_m]
[name_m]Percy[/name_m]
[name_m]Remy[/name_m]
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
[name_m]Sullivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Zephyr[/name_m]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m] → a bit like [name_m]Noel[/name_m] and [name_f]Joelle[/name_f], but never seen in on girls before?
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] / [name_m]Louie[/name_m] → enough like [name_f]Lois[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]?
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m] / [name_m]Stefan[/name_m] → [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] is popular for girls and [name_m]Stefan[/name_m] has the softer sounds of [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]?
[name_m]Maurice[/name_m] / [name_m]Morris[/name_m] → they’ve both got a gentle sound - a bit like [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], [name_f]Reese[/name_f], [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] etc.? But I’d consider them masculine
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] → [name_m]Frankie[/name_m] is popular for girls, as are -lyn names, but Wikipedia lists this as masculine
What bizarrely intrusive rules your register has. Also they must have a lot of time on their hands if they’re Googling people’s individual names. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] well. How about?
Lots of girls have male honor nicknames. Maybe try picking a name from a male family member, friend, or personal hero so you at least feel some connection to the name?
Best of luck. I hope you find something that feels good to you.
Thank you. Yes, she is an absolute evil human being. Her behaviour is appalling and not what the government intended, but every registrar has the right to do whatever they want in my country.
They aren’t bound to follow orders, so she doesn’t have to adhere to the recommendations on how to interpret the law. She knows this and is choosing to use her position to hurt people. It’s a pity.
Thank you. I do like [name_m]Ryan[/name_m] and [name_m]James[/name_m], at least they exist on some girls. But I think I will do [name_m]Aris[/name_m] if that one doesn’t turn out to be rejected too.
