Male Saint Names Ending In The Letter "N"

Hello Berries, I’ve been perusing my latest purchase called “The Catholic [name]Baby[/name] Name Book” and I’ve rediscovered some unusual male saint names that I think may appeal to parents who love names ending in “n” but want something more unique. Here are “n” names with history and depth that were borne by popes, kings, martyrs, mystics, hermits, scholars, monks, teachers, philosophers and prophets from many cultures. [name]Feel[/name] free to list any that strike your fancy, any you dislike or you feel aren’t wearable in the modern world. I’d be interested to hear if any Berries know men with any of these names in real life.

Is it sad that I mentally rubbed my hands together while reading this? Wow, mischa, thank you so much! As well as the usual favourites of mine ([name]Alban[/name], [name]Aurelian[/name], [name]Corentin[/name], [name]Fabian[/name], [name]Valentin[/name] etc.) I have discovered some new gems - Bassian, anyone? Boethian? While I can’t quite bring myself to take Dogfan seriously (“Actually, I’m more of a cat person myself”), I’m loving:
Crescentian
Domitian
[name]Emilian[/name]
Fuscian
Gentian
Haduin
Hieron
Illadan
[name]Marcellin[/name] (this one is wonderful!)
Midan
Terentian
Tressan
Vulpian (so evocatively Romanesque)
Wistan

I’m overwhelmed - behindthename.com, here I come…

@ciottolo - Oh, I’m glad you liked some of the names in my post. I actually was debating whether to put Dogfan on the list but decided to do so in the end since it’s an actual saint. I’m thinking of making more lists (boys names ending in “r” and “us” seem to be all the rage so those would be the next in order. After that, the girls lists begin!). There are so many wonderful names in the book yet to be discovered. After all, Nameberry is a place to expand our name experiences, right? Stay tuned!

What an interesting list!

I know a [name]Cillian[/name] (pr kill-ian) and a [name]Ronan[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are in their early 30s, and attractive blond guys of Irish-Scottish heritage. And my husband’s uncle is [name]Roman[/name] (Ukrainian heritage).

Bessarian is the name of the least used subway station in Toronto!

Great list! I’m enjoying [name]Alban[/name], [name]Cillian[/name], [name]Cyprian[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Simeon[/name], and [name]Simon[/name].
Ilarion (Russian form of the Greek [name]Hilarion[/name]) is an honor name for me.

Yeah, the Saints have wonderful names. There are a lot more, too, at Catholic.org. It’s like a treasure-trove for name lovers : )

I know people called…

[name]Alban[/name] - guy who was a couple of years older than me at school
[name]Edwin[/name] - guy in my grade at school
[name]Finian[/name] - my second cousin’s name (based in [name]England[/name])
[name]Julian[/name] - cousin
[name]Valentin[/name] - guy at school

Also my boyfriend’s confirmation name is [name]Florian[/name].

It’s lovely to hear that Berries know people with these names. At least some of them a wearable!

I know this thread is a year and a half old, but I have to comment anyway!..what a great list. I found the thread because I searched the name Mathurin, and lo and behold, here he is! I found Mathurin, nn [name_m]Matt[/name_m], in a couple of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] L’Amour short stories and was attracted. I wanted to know if it was a “real” name. It sounded familiar, and I had to think a few minutes before I realized I was thinking of [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Maturin, the character from the “Master and Commander” series.

I have met a [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] (he was Irish), an [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m]), an [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], a [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] (saracita’s!), and a [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]. I have friends who know a [name_u]Florian[/name_u], and I follow an artist named [name_m]Julian[/name_m] online, so those two almost count. I also know a [name_m]Quinton[/name_m]. I fell in love with Caian during javad’s name search, and several others, including [name_m]Crispin[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_m]Valerian[/name_m], are already on my list.
