Been thinking a lot about [name_u]Mallory[/name_u] lately, and I like everything about it but the meaning. I noticed some berries here are really good at taking a name with a not so great meaning and turning it into a combo with a nice meaning. Like [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] for example (blind love)
Any ideas on how to transform [name_u]Mallory[/name_u] into a less harsh meaning by adding something to flip that around? Id love to see your ideas!
maybe something to do with hope! turning the meaning into something like “having hope in unfortunate times”. mallory hope, mallory asha, mallory esperanza, mallory zaya, or mallory nadia for example!
[name_u]Mallory[/name_u] Nadia/Nadine (hope after misfortune/hope in misfortune)
[name_u]Mallory[/name_u] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] (love after misfortune/love in misfortune)
[name_u]Mallory[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (might in battle against misfortune)
[name_u]Mallory[/name_u] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] (not sure if you’re religious, but this could be something like god’s gift during misfortune or sort of like a take on god works in mysterious ways)
So, I don’t know where NB gets the meaning but in all French websites it is supposed to be of Celtic origin and mean “wise Prince” (it was originally given to boys, also it is now used for girls too)
I do know Mael and its derivatives mean prince in Breton so it does make sense to me
It does bear a very slight resemblance with the French word for unfortunate (malheureux) but you really have to look for it, and nobody would make the connection.
Everywhere you google it says the same thing about the meaning. I had read somewhere about it meaning wise army, but haven’t found any more info about that, just unfortunate or unlucky.
@RhiaTayler I saw that, I just find it curious, as I really have to dig to find any [name_u]French[/name_u] website mentioning the unfortunate meaning. I just checked Italian websites and found “military counselor” so now I’m even more confused
Same! I love the name though and would use it, i just worry a daughter would grow up to hate it when she found out the meaning, because i read through some comments on a name website where actual women named [name_u]Mallory[/name_u] were talking about how they hate their name because of its meaning and wish they had a more meaningful name.
