Mamie as a nickname for Amalia?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]? I know it’s traditionally for [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but I do much prefer [name_f]Amalia[/name_f].

Sure! I like [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] better too. I think it’s lovely.

I’m not sure that the sounds are quite there, but that said, nicknames can be anything, really, so I think you could get away with it, even if it doesn’t make the most sense.

Any other opinions?

I think it works; the letters are all there. [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] is gorgeous, and [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] is a lovely nickname!

Oh definitely. [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] is so stunning. A gorgeous twist on [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!

I can’t see why not. The letters are there, and it’s a perfectly logical fit. In my experience, you can get away with just about any nickname if you try hard enough. If anything though, [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] is more logical for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] than it is for [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in my view!

I agree w/lamantchenille…[name_f]Mamie[/name_f] is a more logical nickname for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] that it is for [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I’ve never seen the association between [name_f]Mary[/name_f] & [name_f]Mame[/name_f]/[name_f]Mamie[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] is a great nickname for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Mamie[/name_f]: Mammy, Marmy or Maimy?

I like [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] better as a nn for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]. While [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] could definitely work,Ii’m not sure it does justice to the lovely [name_f]Amalia[/name_f].

I’ve only ever heard it pronounced [name_f]May[/name_f]-me.

It seems like a stretch but I think it could work. [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] is such a beautiful name though, and I don’t think [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] lives up to that.

Thanks for letting me know - that’s the sweetest pronunciation!

I don’t see why not. I love [name_f]Amalia[/name_f].

It totally works

Nicknames are what you make them!

I think it totally works! My great-grandmother was [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] and no one actually knew what her legal name was until she died (honestly still can’t believe that…), but apparently it was [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], so I think you can totally use [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
