Marcel

What do you think of the name [name_m]Marcel[/name_m]? I am a huge fan of the show the Originals on the CW. There is a character named [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] “[name_m]Marcel[/name_m]” and I’ve really fallen in love with it. My fiance really likes it, too. We both love [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] and just [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] by itself. I love the ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] connections with [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] and the [name_m]French[/name_m] connections with [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] Duchamp and [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Proust[/name_m]. Thanks!

Not a fan.

Anyone else? Thank you!

I don’t really like it either. It is very popular in [name_f]Austria[/name_f], I know many Marcels, we even have one in the family, so I guess the reason I don’t really like it is that is has been overused here. I do love [name_m]Marcello[/name_m] though.

I really like [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] (not [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] though)! I think it is a really distinguished name, soft and quietly strong. I mostly love it because of [name_m]Proust[/name_m], to be honest, but after all he is one of the greatest authors of all time.

I love the name [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] and it’s on my top 5 list. However, I sometimes wonder if it sounds too feminine for me to actually use if I had a son. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name though.

I like [name_m]Marcel[/name_m]. I think it would fit in well with naming trends currently. [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] isn’t my style but I can understand the appeal. My only pop-culture reference for the name is [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] the Monkey ([name_m]Ross[/name_m]’s) on Friends. I don’t think that is a bad one at all!

I love it! I think it’s quite handsome and ages well too : )

I sort of like [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] and think it’s quite interesting in English depending on your pronunciation.

I really like [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] a lot. I couldn’t sell my H on it tho. I like that it has a soft sound and while it’s not super common, it still sounds familiar.

My dad’s name is [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] so always been pretty normal to me. I’d never use it but would love to hear of a baby named [name_m]Marcel[/name_m].
My aunt is named [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] and a woman from my choir just named her daughter that. I loved hearing it on a baby.

I associate [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] with older men. I know that old man names are coming into vogue, and I usually like them, but this is just one that I don’t feel works for a little boy. It would be very hard to be a teenager named [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] in most of the U.S. I can sort of see the appeal, but I wouldn’t use it. I think [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is a nice alternative if you like [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names.

I like [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] (but I don’t like [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m]). It’s a distinguished and vintage name.

I think [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] is a really cute name! I first encountered it on the game Animal Crossing: [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_u]Leaf[/name_u], and since then it has grown on me.
