Okay, so I adore the nickname [name]Maggie[/name], but I don’t like nicknames as full names and my husband hates [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Marguerite[/name] for some reason. However, I recently discovered [name]Margaretta[/name], and my husband didn’t make “the face” when I mentioned it - I’m sure you ladies know the one!
I normally prefer somewhat shorter names, but I’m kinda loving [name]Margaretta[/name]! [name]Do[/name] you think it’s too elaborate or frilly?
It’s too much for me personally, too. It seems like one of those names that only European royalty would use. I think I’ve seen it used several times in the Danish royal line, maybe? I like it more than the traditional [name]Margaret[/name], but I probably wouldn’t use it personally. Have you considered [name]Margot[/name]?
I have a close friend named [name]Megan[/name], so that’s out for me. [name]Magdalene[/name] would be culturally inappropriate for me to use since I’m Jewish. I’ve considered [name]Margot[/name], but I would probably just call her [name]Margot[/name] and not [name]Maggie[/name] then (same with [name]Megan[/name] - I don’t get the point of nicknames when they don’t actually shorten the name at all).
[name]One[/name] of my favorite ways to get [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Maggie[/name] is [name]Margolette[/name]. It has a much lighter sound then [name]Margaretta[/name]. What do you think?
I actually love [name]Margherita[/name]-- this is the spelling I would go with. (The Missoni heiress wears it really well…)
To get to [name]Maggie[/name], there is also [name]Magnolia[/name]-- it’s suggested regularly on the threads but I don’t know if it’s actually being used.
However, outside of [name]Margherita[/name] (which is my favourite version of the [name]Margaret[/name] name), I also love [name]Margery[/name] (another variant I considered before for myself was [name]Marcharie[/name]) and I have seen [name]Marjorie[/name] too.
I think [name]Margaretta[/name] is a lovely name. It is a mouthful, but if she’s going to be [name]Maggie[/name] for day to day life, then that doesn’t matter.
