I have been crushing on this name and all her variants recently, and am having so much trouble figuring out how to fit her onto my list.
- First of all, I can’t decide if I prefer [name_f]Margarita[/name_f], [name_f]Margarite[/name_f], or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]. Here are the pros and cons.
[name_f]Margarita[/name_f]: This version is a really important honour name for me, so that automatically makes me not want to change it. I love the nicknames [name_f]Marga[/name_f] (also an honour) and [name_f]Rita[/name_f], and how bright and bouncy she sounds. However, I’m pronouncing her in Spanish, and in [name_f]English[/name_f] I worry that it just reminds people too much of the drink? Because so many of my names end in A, this version also makes her hard to pair in a combo because I don’t like the repetitive A endings.
[name_f]Margarite[/name_f]: She’s elegant- but also bright, no alcoholic association, and flows better with the -A ending names on my list. However, she’s not an international to me-when I try to say her in Spanish the ending feels very clipped, and in a Spanish speaking context it would turn into [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] any way. I also don’t feel it’s as strong of an honour- I know it’s basically the same name, but the person I’m honouring is SUCH a Margarita-with-an-A that it feels hard to change it.
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]: Aesthetically, this spelling looks the nicest to me but I wouldn’t have the nickname [name_f]Marga[/name_f], and the Spanish pronunciation is different from [name_f]Margarite[/name_f]- the E really can be heard. It just feels kind of far off from the honour I want, even though I really like how it looks. Am I over thinking this?
Which version do you prefer and why?
- Any recomendations for middles would be highly appreciated! I’m looking for a name that flows well in the middle spot with any of the above version, has a Ballet feel (strong, pretty, and graceful), and that you would picture on a really exuberant, kind, vibrant dancer- so, basically the exact vibe I get from [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] lol. (I just really like the names in my combos to match stylistically.) Options I’ve thought of:
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
Julia/Yulia
[name_u]Alma[/name_u] (maybe)
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (maybe)
The names don’t have to be Spanish, it’s just that for some reason I’m gravitating towards them- probably because all the Marga’s I know are Spanish, so in my head she fits well with them.
Thank you guys so much
[name_f]Margarita[/name_f] is is bright, energetic and sunny - and I like that it has meaning for you. If I met a [name_f]Margarita[/name_f], I would assume she had Spanish heritage and not think really link it to the drink (maybe because I don’t drink so it’s not super in the front of my mind)
[name_f]Margarite[/name_f] - she is elegant and pretty - again, sunny and bright, but more floral? Still, it sounds like you’re very unsure of it - if it doesn’t work as well as an honour, if the pronunciation doesn’t feel quite right/natural to you - I’m not sure it’s the one
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] - this is a very aesthetically pleasing name, floral, sweet and pretty. It does give me different vibes to [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] - less zippy, less lively, more refined. Still, if I knew you had a close connection to a [name_f]Margarita[/name_f], I would make the link that it was an honour - same as if I was told it was to honour a [name_f]Margarita[/name_f], it would make perfect sense - I guess it comes down to what you want and what’s most important. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you want an exact honour, with all your associations and connotations of that name and person, with a very clear link to celebrate them - or a twist on that, something similar but different, so you’re acknowledging them, but maybe giving a child a name all of their own at the same time? (I also think you could easily have nn Marga!)
I think I’d go with [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] personally, but [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] is a good choice for you too.
Middle names:
I think [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is nice - this would give you the option of ‘Marga’ more easily too.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_u]Aria[/name_u]
[name_f]Margarita[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Margarite[/name_f] [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Luciana[/name_f]
[name_f]Margarita[/name_f] [name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Margarite[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f]
[name_f]Margarita[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Margarite[/name_f] [name_f]Dafne[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Margarita[/name_f] [name_u]Carmel[/name_u]
[name_m]Can[/name_m] I throw a fourth option in the mix? If you’re wanting to honor Spanish origins, I’m not sure this will fit, but I do feel like it removes it a step from the drink association - the Portuguese [name_f]Margarida[/name_f]! You could still use [name_f]Marga[/name_f] as a nn, and I love the softness of the D over the T in -rita. [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] is close to my heart, though, and I have so many friends and loved ones that live there. I would love to see more Portuguese names take off, and I think [name_f]Margarida[/name_f] is so beautiful.
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is my favorite of your options, removes the alcohol association, and tbh I think you could still use the nn [name_f]Marga[/name_f]. I think it looks visually much nicer than [name_f]Margarite[/name_f], and removes the alcohol association with [name_f]Margarita[/name_f]. If [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] is important to you, though, I would consider biting the bullet and going for [name_f]Margarita[/name_f], just knowing you will probably have to explain to those not familiar with the name.
[name_f]Margarida[/name_f] Ines/Margarita/Marguerite [name_f]Ines[/name_f] was my first idea… a few other ideas:
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Flor[/name_f]
Noemi/Nohemy
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
Antonella/Antonia/Antonina
Luz/Lux
[name_f]Perla[/name_f]
Good luck!

[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is my favorite among the versions that have been mentioned, and I think [name_f]Marga[/name_f] could still work as a nickname.
For combos I’ve had [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_u]Camille[/name_u] on my list (if you’d prefer the Spanish forms of those middle names [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Camila[/name_f] respectively would work too IMO).
While [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is my personal favourite, I think [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] is stunning too! The alcohol and pizza (albeit spelt differently) do give me pause, but there are already plenty of Margaritas out there, so why not? It also seems to be where your heart lies, the closest honour and I love the nn [name_f]Marga[/name_f]!

I think with [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] being Spanish that another -A name actually works really well in the middle! I’ve tried to include a mixture of endings though.
