Margaux Cherie Jones

What do you think?

My husbands mothers name is [name]Margaret[/name] and my mothers name is [name]Cheryl[/name].

I really like this, but want to get a feel of what strangers might think…

[name]Do[/name] you have other suggestions? I like this spelling of [name]Margaux[/name] better than [name]Margot[/name] as [name]Margot[/name] visually looks too close to Maggot to me.

[name]Margaux[/name] [name]Cherie[/name]

Well I definitely do NOT think that [name]Margot[/name] looks like maggot, far from it.

[name]Margaux[/name] was a made up name that has had some success as an alternative to [name]Margot[/name] but in general the accepted version is [name]Margot[/name].

I can tell you as a [name]Margot[/name] that everyone knows how to pronounce it properly and only once in while have I heard someone tittering about maggot, as if it was funny.

I would 100% love [name]Margot[/name] [name]Cherie[/name] but [name]Margaux[/name] [name]Hemingway[/name] was a tragic figure so I would not use [name]Margaux[/name].

rollo

[name]Margaux[/name] is a rather famous vineyard–so it has not been a made up name for several centuries.

I like it as an alternative spelling–[name]Margaux[/name] [name]Hemingway[/name] notwithstanding. Meaning no disrespect to her family and fans, I find her a relatively minor figure so she wouldn’t influence a baby name choice for me either positively or negatively.

You say you love it—that would be the deciding factor for me. Go for it!

Good luck.

I love it. It did not realise it was a made up spelling, and given it is not a recent made-up spelling - I say it is legitimate. I only know one [name]Margaux[/name], and she uses this spelling, not [name]Margo[/name] or [name]Margot[/name]. Also, given your reasons for this spelling (i.e. to honour grandma) - I think the spelling is lovely. I agree that [name]Margaux[/name] looks closer to [name]Margaret[/name].

[name]Margaux[/name] [name]Cherie[/name] is a lovely name with lovely family links.

Together, the name has a really interesting, vintage French-y vibe to it. If that’s your style, I’d say go for it! However, it is really “that” style. I like the balance of family names, too.

As a side note, my favorite spelling is [name]Margo[/name]. [name]Margot[/name] looks unnecessarily tough to me, whereas [name]Margaux[/name], though perhaps the most unique, is the [name]Annabelle[/name] to my preferred [name]Annabel[/name], if that makes any sense. Other [name]Margaret[/name]-like names you might consider are [name]Magdalene[/name], [name]Magdalen[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], and [name]Magnolia[/name]. And, while [name]Cherie[/name] is the most natural fit to honor [name]Cheryl[/name], you could go with their sweet meaning as a word name - Darling. Or, try [name]Cerys[/name] ([name]Carys[/name]) for a name with a similar meaning and Welsh flair.
