Margo, Margot, or Margaux?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries! I was hoping I could get some helpful advice from you today

Okay, so lately I’ve been loving the name [name_f]Margo[/name_f]! It’s sweet, it’s spunky, and it’s (yikes) getting trendy as a Despicable Me character! However, I’ve been having a little internal battle about which spelling I like better of the name. So here’s the question: [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]?! I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for it’s simplicity, [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for it’s classiness, and [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] for it’s [name_m]French[/name_m] ties and because it’s the spelling I am more familiar with. But I simply can’t seem to decide which to put on my list! For right now I have the [name_f]Margo[/name_f] spelling, but I just don’t know…

So berries, to wrap up, which do you like best and why?

I adore [name_f]Margo[/name_f] ! I find it so classy & elegant .

I really only like it spelled [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. But I looooove the name. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] tenenbaum is where I go with it, and I almost named my daughter [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for that reason!

[name_f]Margo[/name_f] is my favorite. I also like its simplicity.

I prefer the [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or, better, [name_f]Margot[/name_f] spelling. If you’re not [name_m]French[/name_m] then [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] does come across as a bit try hard I think.

I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] <3 The others are nice, but I think this one has the most class.

[name_f]Margo[/name_f] is an adorable name, and my favorite of the bunch. However, I would use [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as it is the traditional spelling of the name as far as I know. [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] would be difficult for many people to spell and pronounce.

I have always preferred [name_f]Margot[/name_f], as [name_f]Margo[/name_f] looks incomplete to me.

Definitely [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]. Firstly, because it fits with the pattern that most of my favourites have (it’s 7 letters long). Also someone pointed out [name_f]Margot[/name_f] looks a bit like maggot, and I can’t get it out of my head. [name_f]Margo[/name_f] is okay, but I just prefer the look of [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] visually.

Hard choice! I love this name, too (it’s already been used in my family otherwise it might be on my list–they live in [name_f]France[/name_f] and chose the [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] spelling). To me, [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] looks the best, but if you live in a non-Francophone country, it would undoubtedly be the most difficult for spelling and pronunciation. [name_f]Margo[/name_f] certainly simplifies things, but it almost looks a little incomplete to me. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is a good compromise (only 1 silent letter as opposed to the potentially confusing “aux” ending).

I think to me it depends on where you live–if you live in a community where you think many people would recognize [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], I’d choose that. If the name [name_f]Margo[/name_f] is very unfamiliar in your area, I might choose the easiest spelling. Somewhere in between the two, I’d go for [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is such a sweet name! I definitely like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] the best. I agree with a pp who said that [name_f]Margo[/name_f] looks a little incomplete. And even though I’m used to seeing [name_m]French[/name_m]-spellings of names because of where I live, [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], and the like have never appealed to me because they seem a teensy bit “over the top” to me.

I like the classic [name_f]Margot[/name_f]!

I prefer [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. It’s simplest while still being classic.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is a nice compromise between the two. It also looks nicest to me - not Americanized like [name_f]Margo[/name_f], nor too [name_m]French[/name_m] and trying too hard like [name_f]Margaux[/name_f].

[name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Margot[/name_f] would be my choices!

[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] looks a bit odd to me - I’ve never seen it spelt like that. I’ve met a couple of [name_m]French[/name_m] Margos and they’ve both spelt it [name_f]Margo[/name_f].

I agree. I live in america and I am certain that if I had a friend who said “i named my daughter Margot” Id be like "cute!! "if they said they named her margo or margaux id just be a little disappointed, and chalk it up to another person who had to spell there kid’s name in a “quirky” way.

But again im in America.

I really like this name! My favorite spelling is [name_f]Margo[/name_f]

[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is the most intriguing spelling, while [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is the most classic ones. I slightly prefer the former.

[name_f]Margo[/name_f] looks dumbed-down and incomplete, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Thanks everyone for the replies! I’m still torn, but I think I’ve decided against [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], because I’m almost certain no one will pronounce it correctly. Sigh. And now that a pp mentioned it, [name_f]Margot[/name_f] does look a bit like maggot. I suppose [name_f]Margo[/name_f] is the winner!

I absolutely love [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] because of [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] [name_m]Hemingway[/name_m] who was a very beautiful model back in the 70’s
