It would bother me as a name nerd since they’re both nicknames for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]However I don’t think that would bother most people, nor do I think it would be problematic in real day to day life. And it could be a cute way to honor a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]As for sound and style I think they match nicely.

They would work well together but they’re both nicknames for the same name so it wouldn’t really make any sense!
I think as both names are related to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] it would be a little bit irking. Names with a similar feel to [name_f]Greta[/name_f] could be [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] & [name_f]Fleur[/name_f].
If I didn’t know they were both versions and nicknames of the same name, I would adore that set. However, as a name enthusiast, unfortunately, it doesn’t work for me.

[name_f][/name_f]I get they can both be variations of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] but I don’t think that’s something most people think of unless someone tells them or they have a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] in their life. And even then who cares? For me if you were doing [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] I’d be like okay those are very close
[name_f][/name_f]The only thing I will say, though I think this association will die down in time. When I first saw [name_f]Margot[/name_f] & [name_f]Greta[/name_f] as sister names, my first thought was “those are super cute together,” and then immediately after I thought of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Robbie[/name_m] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] Gerwig and the [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] movie. But honestly even with that association, I don’t think it’s a bad one at all!

Yes! I know a couple who did this with their daughters’ names as a way to honor a grandmother. I think it’s really sweet. I would consider doing it myself in honor of my own mother or grandmother. The fact that both names are a variation of the same name doesn’t seem to bother or confuse anyone. I could see this being a problem if the sibling names were too similar in sound. In the case of the family I know, the names do not sound sound overly similar.

Sound wise, sure, but it would bother me that they’re diminutives of the same name. Does it make them unusable? No - I’ve know sisters Isabella and Elizabeth - but I might assume it was done deliberately?
