Mariah?

Lately I’ve been thinking about the name [name]Mariah[/name]. I kind of like it because I could use the nn [name]Rye[/name] which I love! I’m not sure though if it is too tied to [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] or maybe too dated… Also, what about [name]Moriah[/name], like the Biblical place name. Would that just be terribly confusing as far as spelling and pronunciation go? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I love [name]Mariah[/name]! I think it’s a twist on [name]Maria[/name] that’s underused. I would pronounce is ma-[name]RYE[/name]-uh, and I think this is the most direct spelling.

I prefer [name]Moriah[/name]. To me the pronunciation differences are really very small. As far as spelling, well my name is [name]Cathryn[/name]. Yes, I have to spell it out every time, but I wouldn’t trade the way my name is spelled for the more well known way for anything! [name]Moriah[/name] is prettier and removes the Ms. [name]Carey[/name] connection.

I would automatically think your a fan of [name]Mariah[/name], if you would choose this name. [name]Moriah[/name]'s pretty though

Yay, I’m so glad to see that others like the name! Yes, I was thinking the [name]Moriah[/name] spelling would help with the Ms. [name]Carey[/name] connection. And yes, now that I’m saying them both out loud, I’m noticing that the pronunciation is very similar.

[name]Mariah[/name] is a pretty name but I’m not a fan of spoiled diva [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] at all (she’ll be in the news more now that she’s signed on to be an American Idol judge). [name]Moriah[/name] would be a great alternative but there is a slight difference in pronunciation.

[name]Mariah[/name] = muh-[name]RYE[/name]-uh

[name]Moriah[/name] = mo-[name]RYE[/name]-uh

I recently met a 4 year old [name]Mariah[/name] and was surprised just how much I liked the name on her! I actually didnt immediately think [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] or “oh, mom must be a fan…” the name just felt exciting and different since you dont hear it very much.

I prefer [name]Mariah[/name] to [name]Moriah[/name], not sure why.

Oh, thanks lineska! That’s really nice to hear of a child named [name]Mariah[/name] and that it didn’t immediately remind you of [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name]. It’ll be years before I have children anyway, so I’m hoping the connection will have faded even more by then.

I know a woman named [name]Mariah[/name] and I think it’s a beautiful name.

I also like the [name]Moriah[/name] spelling and the biblical connection.

I always liked the “British” [name]Austen[/name] pronunciation of [name]Maria[/name] and it’s a shame the singer ruined the name
