Marjolein

Just discovered this beautiful name, and I’m smitten!!

It’s Dutch, and is pronounced mar-yo-LINE.

I love other Dutch names such as Roosmarijn, Saskia, and Annemieke, and think it goes well with those!! I feel like it could also fit with some of the other, non-Dutch names on my list as well.

I also love the name Marjolaine, even though they are not pronounced the same!

I know that it may be a little tired or old-fashioned in the Netherlands, so if you have any insight on that please let me know!!

Bonus!!

As a bonus, it also means “marjoram”, and seeing as I have a herb name myself, I love the connection!!

Also, if anyone has any nn ideas / other thoughts, please lmk!!

So, what do we think? Does she deserve a spot on my list?

I prefer [name_u]French[/name_u] [name_f]Marjolaine[/name_f] (which I had on my extended middles list) but [name_f]Marjolein[/name_f] is cool too!

[name_f]Marjolein[/name_f] is just fine but doesn’t majorly appeal to me. She isn’t as striking as other options on your list and for me doesn’t hand the same whimsical flair.

I work as a criminal justice housing and complex needs keyworker essentially supporting women who are on license and work closely with an IDVA with this name from a different organisation. I honestly think because I’ve had negative experiences with her as she really doesn’t care about the service users as a result I’m not overly keen on the name.

dutchie chiming in here!

I don’t know a lot of Marjolein’s personally, but I do know a lot of women/girls named [name_f]Marleen[/name_f] (mar-lane), which is a name you might also like!

I would nn someone named [name_f]Marjolein[/name_f] either [name_u]Mar[/name_u] or Lein (if it were a little girl I could see her getting nicknamed Leintje, which -tje indicating that we are talking about something small). In [name_f]English[/name_f] I think the nn [name_u]Jo[/name_u] would work best

some other [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] names you might like as well:
[name_f]Eline[/name_f] (A-lee-nuh)
[name_f]Ilse[/name_f] (eel-suh)
[name_f]Jasmijn[/name_f] (Yas-mine)
[name_f]Madelief[/name_f] (a type of flower - Mah-duh-leave)
Maxmarijn
[name_f]Merel[/name_f] (type of bird, Mih-rul)
[name_f]Liza[/name_f] (not specifically [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] but I know a lot of teenage/young-adult Liza’s)
[name_f]Sanne[/name_f] (Sah-nuh)
[name_f]Veerle[/name_f] (Vear-luh)

What a cool name! Personally I prefer just [name_f]Marjoram[/name_f], or [name_f]Marjolaine[/name_f], but this is a fun variant and I love the herb connection.
