Have seen this name start to re-emerge, even before [name_m]Taylor[/name_m] [name_m]Swift[/name_m] helped the process.
What do you think of it and what nn would you use for it?
Any other 1920s-1950s names you’re noticing and liking? (Seems like the late 1800s names slowly being eclipsed or at least joined by more mid-century names).
Ahhh [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] I actually love [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]!
So I know started realising I love [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] because of [name_m]Taylor[/name_m] and her gorgeous song. She made [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] sound so enchanting and melodic. Such a warm, cosy name that feels clunky cool with a midcentury vibe. Nickname wise is a little tricky but maybe [name_m]Mars[/name_m], [name_f]Jorie[/name_f] or [name_f]Jo[/name_f].
I haven’t encountered any little Marjories, I don’t think, but I’d be pleased to. While it’s not a favourite - I don’t super love MARJ sound - it does have a sort of singsong charm but a solidity to it too. And my favourite thing about it is probably the nickname [name_f]Jorie[/name_f]
A few I’ve noticed:
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (so many recently)
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]

[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
I really love this spelling. I possibly like the look of it more than the sound? I haven’t met any Marjorie’s before, but I would be excited to hear it used. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nicknames for this would be [name_f]Joy[/name_f] or Mae/May. Some other nicknames that might be a little stretchy; [name_m]Rory[/name_m], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Midge[/name_f], or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].
I think this is where I land. I love something about [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] and the look of it, but if you are familiar with a “hick” or “redneck” American accent , I think the pronunciation of it where I’m located would detract from Marjorie’s charm. I think [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] might have a similar vibe/look without being butchered quite as badly.
Agree with the warm and cozy/ clunky cool impression of [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] if my horrendous accent wasn’t a factor.
I know someone who just used [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] for their newborn. That’s feels very 1950’s to me, though I could be totally inaccurate.
I do think [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is sweet, in fact I met a little 5 year old [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] about 10 years ago, and thought it was so sweet and spunky! I would probably use [name_f]Madge[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Jo[/name_f] or Jorjie as a nickname.
Other names I’m liking from that period would be [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Judy[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Sally[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Susy[/name_f], [name_f]Sue[/name_f] & [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
I think it’s a cute name, I’ve met a few but all my age (30s now), haven’t heard of little [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] recently.
[name_f]Marjolaine[/name_f] comes to mind since it’s so similar.
I think [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is charming! I know a teenage [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] (named after a grandmother, never went by a nickname). I wonder if [name_f]Meg[/name_f] could be a nickname, since it’s similar to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]?
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is the sweetest! I pretty much live under a rock, so I wasn’t aware of the [name_m]Taylor[/name_m] [name_m]Swift[/name_m] connection, but if it can inspire a few parents to name their baby [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] then I’m all for it.
As a nickname, I would use the cute, straightforward [name_f]Margie[/name_f].
I really like it! I know a young [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] who goes almost exclusively by [name_f]Jorie[/name_f], which I’ve always thought was a modern take on what could be an otherwise clunky choice. I also think [name_m]Rory[/name_m] would work quite well.
I’ve been enjoying [name_f]Judith[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Dolores[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], and [name_f]Susan[/name_f] recently.
It’s been one of my little sister’s top favorites for like 6 years now, she has [name_f]Jo[/name_f] written down as her top nickname choice which would be my favorite too. I like it and would probably have it somewhere on my long list but I know my mom hates it and I have so many other names on my list that I like equally/more that its not worth the inevitable drama to really consider it (My sister isn’t really planning on having kids so this isn’t an issue for her).
I’ve met toddlers called [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], and [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]. A few others I like that might come back:
[name_f]Beverly[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
I was wondering about Kathleen the other day. Not sure I like it but it has something compelling about it! Frances is my daughter’s first middle and one of my faves. Often wonder if I should have chosen it as her first - I love Franny!
I think [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is due for a comeback soon! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nickname is probably [name_f]Madge[/name_f] followed by Margie/Marjie!
I know of a little [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] and while I personally don’t like the name, I think that and [name_f]Judith[/name_f] will start being relatively reused soon (not popular, though)
I love Betty/Betsy on a little girl, it’s so vintage and sweet!
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
I feel like [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and [name_f]Susy[/name_f] are also vintage and what many parents are looking for in a name right now.
Oh yes, [name_f]Sally[/name_f] & [name_f]Susy[/name_f]! Was thinking even Suzette/Susan might resurface and we could see less of the prettier/flouncier [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. I’ve never liked the name [name_f]Sally[/name_f] but it def has a hip vintage feel now that means it’ll be used again!
