Firstly - how would you pronounce [name_f]Marlena[/name_f]? Marlayna or Marleena?
I’m basically trying to find out the necessity of the [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] spelling, which feels a bit long and convoluted, to get the desired pronunciation of Marlayna.
I would pronounce it Marlayna and I would spell is [name_f]Marlena[/name_f], it’s how [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] on Days of Our Lives spells her name and it’s pronounced Marlayna
I would say [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] Marlayna too - but I want to know how many (if any) would say it the other way. If no one does, happy days! The existence of [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] prn. [name_f]Marleen[/name_f] clouds things a bit I think.
I agree,
I would pronounce it Marlayna either way so I’d go with [name_f]Marlena[/name_f].
I would pronounce [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] mar-leh-nah, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it’s mar-lay-nah or mar-lee-nah! I don’t like the look of [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f].
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], one I hadn’t considered, thankyou. I didn’t like [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] but the more I’m writing it the more I’m coming round.
I’d pronounce [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] as Mar-lay-nuh (that was how the two I’ve met have pn it)
[name_f]Marlena[/name_f] I would pronounce (mar-LAY-nuh)
I would know it could possibly be ‘mar-lay-nuh’ like elena. But I would instinctually pronounce it mar-lee-nuh, and I feel a lot of people in my area of the US would be the same
not necessarily, I’m in the us and would pronounce it Mar-Lay-Nuh and I know a lot of people in my area would pronounce it the same.
Same! Most US speakers would likely concur.
Thats why I qualified by saying ‘my area’ theres so many regional accents in the US, you cant make a sweeping general statements how everybody would pronounce it.
That’s good to know, thankyou
I would pronounce [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] mar-lee-nuh. I am not in US though.
Thankyou. I think there is therefore some utility to the [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] spelling which I have come round to anyway.
