Surprise gender so getting our ducks in a row, I’m due in 3 weeks!!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is from Scandinavia and we live in Australia, so names have been rather tricky. This is our second time around lol, with [name_m]Brother[/name_m] [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f].
Am flexible with middle names; those are just names I have had on the list for a long time. I’ve always loved [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] but when we named [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] I was too afraid to use it because of the [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] gump association. I have since learnt that it doesn’t bother me and I don’t think it will be associated once you know the child at all, as I have gotten next to know comments ( apart from very old people lol!!!) about Kasper’s name being connected to [name_m]Casper[/name_m] the ghost- and I absolutely love the name / nature names.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is also love but unfortunately it is too high on the charts in Australia and NZ for me to use [name_f][/name_f] my son also already has a couple in his kindy.
[name_f][/name_f]
Thoughts / opinions on all 3 would be greatly appreciated, I love this group and find it so helpful as I can’t talk with friends or family about names but appreciate outside perspectives when it comes to chosing a name!!! It’s a big choice.
I’m from USA but I know the problem with [name_m]Leif[/name_m] would be that everyone would say “leaf” but that may not be a problem there. If it is, I would honestly strike it from the list.
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] goes better with bro’s name honestly.
[name_f][/name_f]
Also, apparently I am very old at 31 because [name_m]Casper[/name_m] the Friendly [name_m]Ghost[/name_m] is the first thing I think of when I read your son’s name but that might be more of an American thing as well.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- woodsy, rugged and charming, but with a gentleness about it too [name_f][/name_f]- a subtle kind of whimsy and a cohesive nature connection. And it’s easily recognizable but still stands out.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] second pick would be [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] (though this could win on another day). I like the stylish, easy going feel, the outdoorsy vibe, but a touch of literary-ness in there too
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is also handsome [name_f][/name_f]- strong, notably Scandinavian, nature-y and outdoorsy and distinctive too. This makes a good choice [name_f][/name_f]- though I’m sure some might say it as [name_m]Leaf[/name_m] over Layf if having to make that correction bothers you [name_f][/name_f]- I just happen to prefer the other two names myself.
I want to first say that I care for a little [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] (and his siblings), and I’ve never once thought of [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] Gump. I don’t think anyone around me has either! I’d say [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] matches the best, with [name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] being my second pick. [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] is super sweet, but feels a bit to bright and playful in this sleek and classic sibset. [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] is classic and cozy like [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], and I think their vibes match the best! [name_m]Leif[/name_m] lands himself in second place because I like how they both feel so international.
I think these would all make great choices – you could confidently go into your birth with this short list.
[name_f][/name_f]
I slightly prefer [name_m]Leif[/name_m] and [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m]. I especially enjoy the vibes of [name_m]Leif[/name_m] and [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] and that their Scandinavian heritage is up front – it’s my favourite pairing. However, I think I like the sound of [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] a little more as a name (and I agree, the film association is fairly minor). [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] is a handsome choice too, it’s just more obviously cool.
[name_f][/name_f]
I actually think if you had a third son, all these names would sound fantastic together – very slightly eclectic which is the best kind I think.
A few thoughts about middle names. I remember you mentioning [name_f]Snow[/name_f] was a family name, so I like the idea of using another family name if there are any others you love or appreciate.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is very repetitive with the ‘orr-es’ and ‘os’ sounds. I’d personally go with something else, like [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] or [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Marlo[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] sounds great, I feel like I’m missing a subtle Scandinavian connection but I enjoy the nature connection to [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I wonder if you would continue nature themed middle names for a third child.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] works quite well. The transition could be a bit smoother but it’s a small thing.
Hey Kachenka thank you [name_f][/name_f] I never thought about [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] having a bit much or-es sounds. I did have [name_m]Ivar[/name_m] on my list for boys names but decided not to go for it as the pronunciation was a bit too confusing for [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers ( in Scandinavia my husband and his family pronounce it ee-vhar not eye-vahr)
[name_f][/name_f]
Suppose I could look at it for a middle. I just really loved [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] but it’s just far too popular for us. [name_f]My[/name_f] husbands dads name is [name_m]Svein[/name_m]- which is obviously very Scandinavian and I wonder if this would go okay with [name_m]Forrest[/name_m]?
The middle name is always a good place for a name with pronunciation or popularity concerns.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Svein[/name_m] would be lovely. With [name_m]Svein[/name_m] the ‘st’ and ‘sv’ sounds are close together but a brief pause smooths out the pronunciation. I also worry about this far less with family names.
I absolutely adore [name_m]Leif[/name_m]. I like the syllable variation between the two potential brothers too. But [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] and [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] are also fantastic names, I really love this shortlist! [name_f][/name_f]I agree with the other comments that leaf would be most people’s guess at pronunciation, which could get very annoying.
[name_f][/name_f]
Off to see if you’ve made a post about girl names because I bet they are stunning too!
Thank you so much !!! Such a nice reply from stranger on the internet [name_f][/name_f] it definitely makes me feel so happy and content with our boys list.
[name_f][/name_f]
We don’t know the gender so I have done a couple forums on girls. It’s been pretty tricky ha, but at this stage I have [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] / [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] as the top two for girls. Middle name for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] I’m not 100 percent sure, along with the spelling ( [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] is the Scandinavian spelling but I’m worried it may be annoying here with people spelling it [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] so I haven’t decided what we will go with yet! ) any suggestions
All three of these are stunning, but in order of preference for me:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I love [name_m]Leif[/name_m], I think it’s one of the absolute underrated gems of the world. It sounds playful and adventurous, but still fits an adult. [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] and [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] are so well balanced and echoey in this fun way. The whole name feels like [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] inverted and given a bit of foresty lushness. [name_f]Love[/name_f], love, love.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I think this may be the crowd pleaser name. It’s easy to pronounce, classically handsome, and I think the [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] Gump reference is much weaker now than it was. I think [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] are great brother names and it’s such a good strong pairing.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Marlo[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- As much as I do like this name, I don’t feel like it matches up as well with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I love the nature word names in the middle, but [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] to me feels masculine, a little hard edged and very quirky-cool, while [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] is sleek, androgynous, and modern. Still a great name though.
I like Leif & Forrest the most with Kasper Snow and given your heritage. Leif (Layf) is so poised but outdoorsy and handsome to me.
But I don’t think I would use Oskar with Leif. I prefer a consonant after Leif - eg Leif Magnus or Leif Joren.
Having said that, it is a balanced (both calm & spunky) name, Leif Oskar.
I like the idea of Forrest Svein. But also Forrest Viggo could work?
I’d opt for Marlo if you want to lean into the hip/artsy feel of Kasper but I think you should stick with one of the more weighty names of Leif and Forrest.
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is absolutely stunning, and my favorite with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] – he’s got that undeniable Scandanavian charm & a grounded, earthy feel that just shines when paired with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], though I don’t love him with [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] because of the repeating -os sounds. Maybe [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Marlo[/name_m], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Jakob[/name_m], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Anders[/name_m], or [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Hans[/name_m] could work?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Marlo[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] is absolutely stunning as well, but feels a little more artsy & modern then the solid & grounded [name_m]Kasper[/name_m].
I think [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] works best for you as you mention loving both [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] and [name_m]Oskar[/name_m]. I don’t think the association is anything to worry either. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite from your list however is [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] & [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] sound so sweet together.
Personally, I do make the [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] Gump association and worse I make the association with who [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] was named for in the movie- [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Bedford[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] the first leader of the KKK. I don’t think that most people will make that association especially not in Australia and most people just like it as a naturey surname as first name but I do believe that it started being used a first name in reference to [name_m]Bedford[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] before becoming more widely used. As a name nerd that history would bother me even if most people would not be aware of it, I understand if it doesn’t bother you especially in another country where it’s just any other last name. I much prefer just using [name_m]Forest[/name_m], it’s a lovely nature name on its own.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite overall is [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m], I think it goes well with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], its cute and friendly but stands up well as an adult name. I do like [name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] a lot as well but I feel that it will be mispronounced as “Leaf”. I want to throw in a wild card with [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m], I think it captures elements from [name_m]Marlo[/name_m] and [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] goes well with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m].
