Marnie?

The more I hear this name the more I like it. What do you think of it? Does it sound too much like a nickname and what full names could you use to get the nickname, [name]Marnie[/name]?

Marnie: Meaning Of Name Marnie | Nameberry.com

[name]Marna[/name], [name]Marnay[/name], [name]Marne[/name], [name]Marnee[/name], [name]Marney[/name], [name]Marni[/name], [name]Marnina[/name], [name]Marnisha[/name], [name]Marnja[/name], [name]Marny[/name], [name]Marnya[/name], [name]Marnye[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Marnie[/name] as a standalone name. It feels a bit nicknamey, but no worse than [name]Jamie[/name] or [name]Marcie[/name]. I would love to meet a little [name]Marnie[/name]! If you really want to use a longer name, you may like: [name]Marina[/name], [name]Martina[/name], [name]Marin[/name], [name]Marcellina[/name], [name]Marcheline[/name], [name]Marilyn[/name], [name]Marian[/name], [name]Marlene[/name], [name]Marsellonia[/name], [name]Maryanne[/name], [name]Marzena[/name].

I like it is a stand alone name too. I just wasn’t sure if it was too nicknamey.

I like it but it had to grow on me! It reminds me of [name]Millie[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Josie[/name], etc., all the old lady nicknames that are coming back into style. I would say it’s too nicknamey for a stand-alone but there’s not really a standard full name for it so I think it’s fine on its own.

I really like [name]Marnie[/name]. It has a great sound and a vintage feel. [name]Marina[/name], [name]Marion[/name], and [name]Marlene[/name] are all great long forms. I also like [name]Marnie[/name] as a double-barreled name: [name]Marnie[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Marnie[/name] [name]Jean[/name], [name]Marnie[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Marnie[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Marnie[/name] [name]Ray[/name].

OoOooO…I never thought of the double barreled idea. I really like that for [name]Marnie[/name].

[name]Marnie[/name] does feel nicknamey to me, but there’s lots of other nicknamey type names being used. I had never heard [name]Marnie[/name] until I watched Repo! The Genetic [name]Opera[/name], so that’s what it makes me think of and I think her full name was [name]Marnie[/name].
Also just found that [name]Marni[/name] is a Latin or Hebrew name meaning “to rejoice” to there you go. Same sound, real full name.

For full names:

[name]Marna[/name]
[name]Marnina[/name]
[name]Marcellina[/name]
Marcenia
Mardini
[name]Marini[/name]
[name]Marjani[/name]
Marleny
[name]Marina[/name]

Not a fan. I like pretty names. It’s too close to carnie, like a carnival worker.

I also really like [name]Marnie[/name] as a standalone name.

[name]Marnie[/name] makes me think of a witch as it was used in both Halloween Town, and [name]True[/name] Blood by characters who were witches.

I really like [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], especially as a nickname for [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]. It’s just a little too insubstantial by itself.

I grew to like [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] more after hearing it on characters on Girls and The Hour, even though they aren’t necessarily the most admirable people!

I adore [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] as a stand alone name, I don’t find it nicknamey at all. Not every -ee ending name is a nickname - [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] etc. My OH wouldn’t like it - he’d say it was too weird - but I think it’s brilliant.

For the record, I’ve met two - one was just [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] and the other [name_u]Marion[/name_u] nn [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], both in their teens now. I think it works as both a standalone and as a nickname, whichever you lean towards.
