Mary Claire?

So I’ve recently fallen head over heels for the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], which is not at all in my usual style of names. It is completely different from everything else I like, and I think that’s cool and interesting. But my worry is that I’m Jewish, and I was wondering if it was odd if there was a little girl named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] who was Jewish? Because it is my understanding, and please please please correct me if I’m wrong, that having a double-barrelled name starting with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is more of a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] type of thing? I’ve always heard that was the case, but if it isn’t let me know. So my question being that would being jewish make [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] an awkward name to carry?

I’m thinking about [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], the magazine. If it’s not bothering you, I think it’s all okay. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is pretty. I might not be the best person to answer a question about religious related issue though, as I’m an agnostic and love many saint names.

Thanks for your input! I never knew there was a magazine called [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], so that actually never entered my realm of thought! I don’t think it’d be much of an issue though, because [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] don’t sound exactly alike (though they ARE similar).

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is very sweet, vintage and pretty. However, I would expect a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to come from a Catholic family more than any other religion (it’s my mothers two mn’s). Have you considered [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

I also love the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! While I do like more classic names, they’re usually much less “boring” than [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I’ve also started liking [name_m]John[/name_m] too. Also quite unusual for me. I am not at all religious therefore, I do not regularly associate in such circles. I was under the impression that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] was not very popular these days and only slated for women in their 40’s and older. Once I started questioning on here, I realize it is definitely still alive and kicking in the [name_m]Christian[/name_m] world amongst girls of all ages.

I don’t think double barrel [name_f]Mary[/name_f] names are necessarily always associated with being [name_m]Christian[/name_m], but certain ones are ([name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], etc.). I’m embarrassed to say I’m not sure about [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], but it does certainly make me think of [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. Maybe use something a little less predictable as the second name - [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f] or even [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is a beautiful name! I once knew a nurse named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and she was such a sweet lady and a member of the protestant religion.

Thank you so much for your help! It’s not so much that I’m looking for a similar sound or replacement for [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as that I’m mostly inquiring about the name itself. I just think it sounds really beautiful and organic and I’ve always loved [name_f]Claire[/name_f], anyway. I also thought the bare meaning of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] was really awesome: bitter clarity. It isn’t exactly uplifting, but it gives really great imagery, I think. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Clarice[/name_f], and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are all beautiful names and I really like them, but it just doesn’t exactly “feel” the same. [name_f]Every[/name_f] once in a while there’s a name that just gives off a super good, fuzzy vibe, and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is just super giving me that right now! I really appreciate the advice and opinions!

I’m not that excited about it-mainly because of the similar sound ‘air’ in both names.

My first thought was the magazine, but it isn’t too strong an association I guess. And I wouldn’t expect a girl named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to be any certain religion, it seems pretty classic.

I don’t think religion is such a big issue in naming…

I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. It is so sweet and simple, I would [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] to meet one among the millions of Paytens and Bellas.

I think a lot of people would hear [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. If you’re not opposed to [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], that may be a better choice.

Religion was not the first thing that came to mind when hearing [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. That being said, after thinking about the question you posed, I would say that this name has [name_m]Christian[/name_m]/Catholic undertones. I know a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (2), [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Therese[/name_f], and if my memory serves me correctly, all are Catholic.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though the double barreled “[name_f]Mary[/name_f]” names may be more prevalent in one religion over another, I don’t think it’s any reason not to use the name. If you love it, then use it! When I hear [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] I think of a girl who is cute, sweet, smart and a maybe a little shy, not what religion she is.

Best of luck!
