We are having a baby girl in just 2 short weeks and need a name pronto! I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Marshall[/name] (our last name) but I have to admit, I’m just a little afraid of the pot association. I think the nicknames MJ and [name]Janie[/name] are super cute! We are also considering [name]Marlowe[/name] [name]Louise[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Louise[/name]. What is your opinion on [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name]?
I think [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] has a radical plainness that’s pretty darn cool. I’m all for it.
[name]Maeve[/name], however, is just staggeringly beautiful. I, personally, would use [name]Maeve[/name]. Not sure about [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Louise[/name] though. I think some other middle might work better. Any other names that have a special or family significance for you?
Is [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] a double first name or a first name and middle name? I personally think of pot, but who knows how many people will think of that. It’s a pretty cute combo with your last name. I like the nickname MJ too.
[name]Marlowe[/name] is too much with [name]Marshall[/name] (two syllable [name]Mar[/name]- names) and I’m not a fan of [name]Maeve[/name] at all.
I think shoes, then weed – but I also think [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] would be absolutely adorable on a little girl.
If there were no negative associations with super cute, but I think of pot and buckle shoes as well.

I thought Spiderman’s girlfriend first, as well. I do think it’s cute, though. [name]Marlowe[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is the other one I like. I’ve never really liked [name]Maeve[/name], myself.
I do think of pot first, so I wouldn’t use it. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Louise[/name]?
I love [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. It’s so pretty 
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is so 1950’s retro and sweet. I love it. MJ is a cute nn. Actually, I met a girl when I was a teenager with that nn and I thought she was sooo cool!
I think it’s a sweet old fashioned name combo. However, you will have people thinking of weed and shoes IF you are using it as a double barrel first name.
ha! Me, too! I think that’s a pretty awesome association, personally, but I thought of pot just as much. I think MJ and [name]Janie[/name] are adorable nns, too, and if [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is just her name, and she doesn’t go by it most of the time (usually just [name]Mary[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Janie[/name], or MJ), I think it’d be fine. If you ALWAYS want to call her [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name], though, then that would be a no for me, sorry.

It’s really too bad that [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] has these connotations (except the Spidey one, that’s not so bad), because you’re right, it’s a really cute name. I just don’t think it’s usable.
I like [name]Marlowe[/name], but not with [name]Marshall[/name] (one too many [name]Mar[/name]-'s). [name]Maeve[/name] is nice, but with [name]Louise[/name] I’m not so sure.
