Hello all!
Despite the recent popularity, my husband and I finally agreed on a name: [name]Amelia[/name]. I wish it wasn’t so popular, but it’s not a dealbreaker for us. My husband’s mother and my mother shared the same first name: [name]Mary[/name]. We were both very close to our mothers, and we would love to honor them in some way by naming our little girl after them. While I think that [name]Mary[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] sounds very pretty, my husband thinks it is a terrible idea to give her first name as [name]Mary[/name] (even though she would go by [name]Amelia[/name]). What do you all think of [name]Mary[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]? Do any of you nameberries have any other ideas for us?
Possible important details:
Last name ends in “S” and contains 2 syllables.
[name]Maris[/name]?
[name]Maren[/name]?
[name]Love[/name] [name]Maura[/name] but the a’s in [name]Maura[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] kind of run together.
I love the name [name]Mary[/name]. It’s so sweet. What about [name]Merry[/name]…it looks different and isn’t so common. Plus it brings a jovial feel to the name which I am sure both of your mothers were…
[name]Merry[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] sounds like a song…its sweet and is very pretty…
irishmom: Our last name ends in “S”, so [name]Maris[/name] is a no-go. I’m not crazy about [name]Maren[/name] either…but thank you for the suggestions!
nicunurseamanda: My 3 month old niece is [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Marie[/name] (my [name]SIL[/name] is clearly not phased by popularity of naming choices) so [name]Marie[/name] is also a no-go. Thanks though!
melissalauren, I love the sound of an “a” middle name with the “a” ending in [name]Amelia[/name]!! [name]Marina[/name] is pretty! But do you think it would be associated with marina as in a docking area for boats? We live in a river valley, so it is a somewhat known/used word.
I like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] a lot! But if she’s going to go by [name]Amelia[/name], I would opt to do [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mary[/name].
What about these variations of [name]Mary[/name]?
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Molly[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Maria[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Marietta[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Maren[/name] (I know this was suggested, but I think [name]Maren[/name] is so charming. I really like it with [name]Amelia[/name], actually)
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mariana[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mariella[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Maia[/name] (I saw a site that listed [name]Maia[/name] as a variant of [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Maria[/name]… I thought it was it’s own name, but maybe? I think [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Maia[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Maya[/name] is really cute!)
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]May[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Malia[/name] (probably too rhymey, but I couldn’t help but slip it in! I think [name]Malia[/name] is stunning)
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Manon[/name] (mah-NO, ish. It’s hard to write French pronunciations, haha. It’s the French form of [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mara[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Anamaria[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Annemarie[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Annamarie[/name] (probably a bit too long, haha)
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] (the more Hebrew-version of [name]Mary[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mariah[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Marisa[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mariska[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Moira[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] Mariama (I believe this is a Maori form of [name]Mary[/name]? I think it’s pretty… maybe [name]Amelia[/name] Mariama is too “M” heavy though)
I’m not 100% sure some of these–especially [name]Maia[/name], [name]Mariah[/name], [name]Marisa[/name], [name]Mariska[/name], etc., are actually forms of [name]Mary[/name], but they do start with the same [name]Mar[/name]- (or in [name]Maia[/name]'s case, Ma-), so I figured I would list them anyway!
Well if she would just go by [name]Amelia[/name] anyway then it seems silly to give her the first name [name]Mary[/name]. Why not call her [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mary[/name]? That will still honour your monthers.
I love [name]Mary[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], but if you are going to call her [name]Amelia[/name], I say name her [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] [name]May[/name].
I really like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], but also really like [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] and it sounds like it makes more sense for you that way. [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] is a great name, and AMS are probably better initials than MAS on some levels (not bad or anything, but, mass, like, weight, and mas, like, Spanish for more).
i think [name]Mary[/name] is beautiful and underused, but if she will go by [name]Amelia[/name] it seems like the fn should be [name]Amelia[/name]. if you don’t like [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] (i like it) or [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Marie[/name] (it’s ok imo) maybe mns:
[name]Marietta[/name]
[name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name]
