Hello all! [name]Hope[/name] you’‘re having a great holiday!
Well, this is a part of my other post, "Middle Class English Family circa 1855 ( Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums) I still lack a name for my heroines love interest. I’'ve decided that his surname is [name]Thornton[/name], but that’s about it. I can’t think of a decent name to go with it! I don’t want something like [name]Robert[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]John[/name] or [name]Charles[/name]. I like [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] but neither sound good with [name]Thornton[/name]. Sigh. Some male characters have already been named [name]Walter[/name] and [name]Fitzwilliam[/name].
So if anybody has an idea, that’d be great! Old fashioned and masculine is what I’m going for.
Thanks so much and happy holidays!

Good luck! Sounds like an interesting group
@sleepysessha- thanks so much for the reply. You have some great suggestions but none are striking a cord. If it helps, his sisters are [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Iris[/name], and his mother is named [name]Catherine[/name]. His father-having died while a teenager- is probably named [name]Jonathan[/name].
Any ideas? This is very frustrating!
I suggest nymbler.com for suggestons. Here are some suggestions that came up using [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Ada[/name] abd [name]Iris[/name].
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Herbert[/name]
[name]Albert[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Archibald[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
@marinadancesl17- thanks for the list, and suggestion- I [name]LOVE[/name] nymbler now. With both lists I’'ve compiled some ideas.
Mr. EdwardnThornton
Mr. [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Thornton[/name]
Mr. [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Thornton[/name]
Mr. [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Thornton[/name]
Mr. [name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Thornton[/name]
Mr. [name]Carlisle[/name] [name]Thornton[/name]
I’m unsure what to pick, but at least this is a start! If anybody wants to help me narrow this down, that’d be great. Tanks so much for the replies!
I think [name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Thornton[/name] is amazing.
I’d probably steer clear of [name]Edward[/name] because the male lead in [name]Jane[/name] [name]Eyre[/name] is [name]Edward[/name] [name]Rochester[/name] of Thornfield which feels very close to me.
Back in that time they were really fond of rather obscure Biblical names (of which [name]Cyrus[/name] is one), others:
[name]Eleazar[/name], [name]Solomon[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Samson[/name], [name]Reuben[/name], [name]Rufus[/name]
@kala_way- I remembered [name]Edward[/name] [name]Rochester[/name] from [name]Jane[/name] [name]Eyre[/name] but I completely forgot about Thornfield. So [name]Edward[/name] is out.
I do love the sound of [name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Thornton[/name], but it seems a bit soft. Plus, it rhymes with his sisters name, [name]Iris[/name]. [name]Cyrus[/name] is on the top of the list but I’m still unsure. Thanks for the reply.
I personally like [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Thornton[/name], and it sounds vaguely sibling-y to [name]Iris[/name].
Alright, I’ve decided on Frerderick [name]Thornton[/name]. It was a close call between [name]Cyrus[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name], but in the end, [name]Frederick[/name] was too handsome to pass up. Perhaps I’ll use [name]Cyrus[/name] elsewhere.
Thanks so much for the help everyone! There was a lot of great advice!
[name]Happy[/name] new year!
What about [name]Jerome[/name]? I think [name]Jerome[/name] [name]Thornton[/name] is quite a good name?
@littlemissgeek- thank you for the suggestion, but [name]Jerome[/name] doesn’t really suit the feel that I’m going for. Plus, I don’t think it goes with the names of his sisters. Thank you again though!
