[name_f]My[/name_f] friend is pregnant with her second son and they are really struggling for names. Their son #1 is named Vervain [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], so for the first name of son #2 to be a two syllable, plant or flower related name.
The only ones I could think of were [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] (which wouldn’t work because their surname is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]), [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (too girly), [name_m]Heathcliff[/name_m] (to which I got “I might love Wuthering Heights but I’m not naming my son after that psycho”), [name_m]Asher[/name_m] (too popular) and [name_m]Basil[/name_m] (too poncy).
So, I was wonder is any of you knew of any two-syllable plant, flower or tree related names?
I like Hawthorne… could be nicknamed Thor which is kinda cute and kinda badass at the same time.
Maybe…
Aspen
Hemlock
Cypress
Oakley
Palmer
Adair- “oak tree ford”
Calyx- flower part
Foster - “forester”
Arlo -“barberry tree”
Also [name_u]Yarrow[/name_u] (type of plant), [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m], and Coriander.
Also while a plant theme is cute with the last name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] it might be a lot.
I’d probably suggest broadening their horizon to any nature related names or using a plant name as a mn.
Names like [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], [name_f]Ecru[/name_f], [name_u]Slate[/name_u], [name_m]Havelock[/name_m], [name_m]Heron[/name_m] could all be great options without the blunt-force impact of another plant fn paired with [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
[name_m]Ilon[/name_m] - Hebrew name meaning oak. Sometimes also spelled [name_u]Elon[/name_u].
[name_m]Oren[/name_m] - Hebrew, meaning pine.
[name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Huon[/name_m] - An Australian pine.
Jarrah - Another Australian tree I like. I was fond of [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] anyway. I have this on my own list.
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] - [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] is my favourite cedar. Stunning, stunning, amazing tree. [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] itself is also okay but wouldn’t make my top list and kind of runs into [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_f]Thyme[/name_f]
Larkspur
Foxglove
Lichen
[name_m]Valerian[/name_m]- maybe too close to Vervain but I love it
Mandrake
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]- Zephyranth, aka [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] lily, aka [name_f]Easter[/name_f] lily
@Lexiem - Vervain is a plant too, so I’m doubtful they will change their mind about it. I’m pretty sure the entire point of plant names is because of [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. @cristinamariane - I don’t think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is that girly either, but the parents do, and its their child.
Thanks for the suggestions guys; the parents like [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] the best, and also like [name_m]Florin[/name_m], [name_m]Elmore[/name_m], [name_u]Adair[/name_u], Calyx, [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u].
I name my pets with plant names. [name_f]My[/name_f] boys are [name_m]Bramble[/name_m] ([name_m]Bram[/name_m]), [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m], [name_f]Aster[/name_f], [name_u]Larkspur[/name_u], Derris. I also have a [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m], [name_f]Daffodil[/name_f] ([name_f]Dilly[/name_f]), and [name_u]Dandelion[/name_u] (Dandy), but I wouldn’t recommend those for human kids.
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is the welsh variation of “[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]”?
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_u]Forest[/name_u]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]
[name_m]Valerian[/name_m] (I think this might be too close to his brother’s name but it’s perfect)
[name_u]Vetiver[/name_u] (again this might be too close to his brother’s name but it’s such a vibe)
[name_u]Florian[/name_u] (flowering)
[name_m]Salix[/name_m] (Latin botanical name)
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] (wood forest)
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u] (elm grove)
[name_m]Bromley[/name_m] (meadow where broom grows)
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] (deer field)
[name_m]Calhoun[/name_m]/Callahan (from the narrow forest)
