Both are lovely names that seem way way overused.

I would go with alternate versions.

[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilda[/name_f].
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] or [name_f]Meg[/name_f].

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] for sure. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is only reminiscent of the book by Roahl Dahl to me which isn’t terrible I just can’t see using it.

100% [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]! [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is ugly…and people will pronounce it like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] for me, too. I love [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], but I’m not a huge [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] fan. I really dislike the [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] prn. for the [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] spelling, though, so I guess I’d stipulate that if [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is said with the -line ending, then that, but if not [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] for the nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f], and Madelief best of the [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]/[name_u]Mattie[/name_u] names out there, though!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] both. I’ll go with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] only because I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] to [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].

I usually don’t prefer the name with the a on the end, but I went with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] because I so dislike the spelling “[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]”. (Sorry, but it always looks like two words shoved together “Made” and “line”. I really like the original spelling of “[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]” and the way that the traditional spelling is pronounced.)

Also [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] has nice connotations for me. Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]; the book by [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl; [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_m]Gage[/name_m] etc.

Definitely [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. Great namesakes all round, and a really powerful name.

This was so hard for me to choose. I would use [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] myself (pronounced MAD-ih-line), but in the end, [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] won because I would be SO impressed to meet a little [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]!

I choose [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] but Iam having second thoughts now. I find [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] much stronger and powerful than [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and I really dislike the nickname [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. If I could change my vote, I would vote for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

I agree with bellerose - I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is a stronger name! And as others have mentioned, there may be confusion on the correct pronunciation of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
