I think Matthew is a great name, but I’m not a big fan of Matt. Is Matt inevitable or is it possible to stick with Matthew?
And, I thought it might be easier to avoid Matt if I introduced a different nickname early on. What are some other creative nicknames for Matthew that aren’t too much of a stretch?
I do think some people might shorten to [name_m]Matt[/name_m], but you could always let them know he goes by [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] or another nickname. I don’t think a lot of people would call a baby [name_m]Matt[/name_m] though, since it seems to create an image of an older man.
I’m seconding Mattie! I think it is cute on a younger child but is cool in someone older and it is quite an obvious name so people would use it. At a stretch you could use The (a soft ‘th’ sound) or Theo but that is at a real stretch and people probably wouldn’t use it. I would use Mattie for you but if you don’t like any nicknames just always say Matthew!
The middle name will be either [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] since it’s a family name, so no real way to use the middle initial. I’m also not a fan of [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], unfortunately. It’s too close to [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] for me, and I grew up with a mean one who totally ruined that name.
I’ve known several [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] who’ve only been referred to by their full names. That said, he might decide he likes [name_m]Matt[/name_m] in the future
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] nickname would have to be [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] (from the last syllable)!
Some people might call him [name_m]Matt[/name_m] at first, but I think it’s avoidable if you say he goes by a different nickname or just [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
