I have posted on several threads about the name [name]Madison[/name] for a boy. Sadly, many people shot it down, as well as several members of my family. But I am still very curious, what are done boy names where the nickname [name]Matti[/name] is a possibility. [name]One[/name] name I have considered is the full name [name]Matthew[/name], but I am apsolutlylove dead set against the nickname [name]Matt[/name]. Any other names you can think of?
[name]Matthias[/name] nn [name]Matti[/name] is pretty standard in Germany; Iāve had several exchange students with that name and, for me, [name]Matti[/name] is just adorable on a boy.
Mattis is actually a name that is rising very quickly here in Denmark, but I donāt know if thatās too nicknamey for English speakers.
I agree with PP, [name]Matti[/name] as a nickname for [name]Mattias[/name]/[name]Matthias[/name] would work just great, or Matheus.
I think youāll get [name]Matt[/name] no matter what the full name is. [name]Matti[/name] with the āiā is very young-seeming, and he may at some point decide he doesnāt want it there any more (like [name]Bobby[/name] and [name]Billy[/name] becoming [name]Bob[/name] and [name]Bill[/name].) At that point itās out of your control- itās his name, after all. And names tend to get shortened to their first syllable anyway- [name]Alex[/name] becomes [name]Al[/name], [name]Jordan[/name] becomes Jor, etc. Itās a pretty natural thing that people do, and I donāt think thereās really any way to stop it.
[name]Matteo[/name] and [name]Matthis[/name] would work.
I think that any name that can be shortened to [name]Matti[/name] can be shortened to [name]Matt[/name] as well, sorry.
I know a Matson. That could work with [name]Matti[/name] as a nn.
I agree completely. If you hate [name]Matt[/name] so much, Iād say that you should probably give up on [name]Matti[/name]. Eventually [name]Matti[/name] will be shortened to [name]Matt[/name] and there will be nothing you can do about it. No point using a name if you absolutely loathe the most intuitive nickname. I like the [name]Matthias[/name] suggestion and also want to suggest Tamati (the Maori form of [name]Thomas[/name]).
