I am expecting baby in [name]June[/name] - we don’t know if we’re having a boy or girl, but are getting stuck on a girls name. We both like the name [name]Mattie[/name] (named after my grandfather, [name]Matthew[/name]). But is it too nick-namey? I don’t like [name]Matilda[/name] - I don’t mind [name]Madeline[/name], despite its populatrity, but I would lose the “[name]Matt[/name].” Any suggestions? (FYI…my son’s name is [name]Ryan[/name] - I want the names to sound cute together).
What about [name]Madison[/name] I know a [name]Matthew[/name] who gets called [name]Maddy[/name] so a [name]Madison[/name] could get called [name]Mattie[/name].
[name]How[/name] about [name]Mattea[/name]? [name]Matisse[/name]?
Or, something like, eg. [name]Mary[/name] [name]Tina[/name] so you get Ma- from the fn and [name]Ti[/name] from the mn. Too much of a stretch?
I like [name]Martha[/name] and [name]Mattie[/name] is a traditional nickname for that. It was in [name]True[/name] Grit but it’s not a particularly trendy name. I think its sweet and retro without being TOO dusty.
[name]Mattie[/name] is fine by itself. I really like the suggestion of [name]Martha[/name] nn [name]Mattie[/name].
My daughter’s name is [name]Mattie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and she was actually named after our friend [name]Matthew[/name]. I love her name. It’s common, but has a unique twist since it’s not [name]Maddie[/name] or [name]Maddy[/name]. We do get asked all the time if her name is short for [name]Madison[/name] or [name]Madeline[/name]. Sometimes I do wish we had named her [name]Matilda[/name] just so she has a more formal name to fall back on and because we get asked all the time what it’s short for. Ultimately, I lover her name and everyone else seems to think it’s adorable too. And, my husband’s name is [name]Ryan[/name]

My name is [name]Lori[/name] and everyone always thinks its a nickname for [name]Lauren[/name] or [name]Laura[/name], so I know how annoying that can get. But…I love your answer. I think we have our hearts set on [name]Mattie[/name]!
